What is a temporary patient navigator?

Temporary Patient Navigators are professionals hired on a short-term basis to assist patients in navigating the healthcare system. They help patients understand their diagnosis, coordinate appointments, access resources, and overcome barriers to care. These roles are often filled during periods of high demand or to cover staff absences, ensuring patients continue to receive support. Patient navigators play a vital role in improving patient outcomes and satisfaction by providing guidance and advocacy throughout the care process.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a temporary patient navigator?

To thrive as a Temporary Patient Navigator, you need a solid understanding of healthcare processes, patient advocacy, and knowledge of community resources, usually supported by a background in health or social services. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems, case management software, and sometimes certification as a patient navigator are typical requirements. Outstanding interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and problem-solving abilities set top candidates apart.
