Job description

Job Title: Financial Specialist
Location: Madison, WI
Start Date: Week of April 28, 2025
Work Arrangement: Initial onsite training and work required; hybrid work may be considered following onboarding
Position Overview:
The Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS) is seeking a qualified Financial Specialist to provide temporary support during a staff vacancy. The selected candidate will begin with in-person training the week of April 28, 2025, and must be available to work at least three days per week for a three-month period. Initial onsite presence is required to ensure successful collaboration with the existing financial team. A hybrid arrangement may be possible after the initial phase.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Preparing batch entries and reconciling daily fiscal input into the agency's automated fiscal system
  • Serving as cashier: receiving checks/cash and coding/processing receipt documents
  • Receiving, documenting, and depositing incoming funds; preparing and processing refunds and adjustments
  • Maintaining accounts receivable and accounts payable (manual and/or automated systems)
  • Managing revenue collection and ensuring accurate accounting through deposits
  • Utilizing microcomputer spreadsheets for tasks related to assigned financial functions
  • Engaging in frequent communication (daily) with users at various levels to troubleshoot issues within the financial system and coordinate necessary corrections
