Teacher Assistants

2026-2027 School Year
Full- and Part-Time Positions | Grades K-12

Preferred Credentials

  • Minimum of six (6) semester hours of college coursework in an area related to job responsibilities
  • Knowledge of the developmental characteristics of early adolescents/adolescents
  • Ability to work effectively with students in need of remediation and encouragement
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Teaching Assistant Job Description (per NYSUT)

Definition

Teaching Assistants provide instructional support to students under the general supervision of a certified teacher.

Certification

Candidates must hold or be eligible for one of the following:

  • Level I
  • Level II
  • Level III
  • Temporary Teaching Assistant Certificate

Duties

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Working with individual students or small groups on instructional activities
  • Assisting teachers by providing insight into student progress and needs
  • Supporting students in the use of instructional resources
  • Assisting in the development of instructional materials
  • Utilizing specialized skills in areas such as languages, arts, crafts, and music
  • Supporting classroom instruction as directed by the teacher
  • Assisting students with specific health-related needs, as appropriate
