Job Summary

Provide advanced mechanical engineering services in support of either the operation and maintenance of campus facilities mechanical systems and utilities or systems and equipment associated with research efforts within an academic or research unit or laboratory. Provide work and project direction to other engineers and technical personnel. This position will interact on a consistent basis with: facilities management and utilities personnel or research management and faculty; co-workers, vendors, suppliers and contractors. This position typically will advise and counsel: facilities or lab management. This position will supervise: NA (work direction only).

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -
Lead in the design, installation and testing of mechanical systems and components.

Job Duty 2 -
Develop engineering project schedules and make work assignments.
Job Duty 3 -
Conduct analyses of mechanical system performance; prescribe corrective action where required.
Job Duty 4 -
Develop plans and specifications for mechanical systems and components.
Job Duty 5 -
Troubleshoot mechanical systems; may involve oversight of calibration and repair work.
Job Duty 6 -
Prepare drawings, schematic diagrams and related documentation associated with mechanical components and systems.
Job Duty 7 -
Manage project engineering budgets.
Job Duty 8 -
Interact with vendors regarding procurement and delivery issues
Job Duty 9 -
Conduct project reviews for conformance to quality standards and compliance.
Job Duty 10 -
Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Experience
Six to eight years of job related experience

Preferred Qualifications

Additional Preferred Qualifications
Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE)

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

SKILLS
This job requires advanced application of mechanical engineering principles, processes and practices; application of regulations, codes and safety practices associated with mechanical systems; project management; utilization of basic and advanced computer applications including those specific to areas of responsibility; communications.
