Job Summary
Under limited supervision, the CIT RASC Law Enforcement Officer employee is responsible for providing crisis intervention/ services to those individuals at risk of hospitalization due to mental illness and/or substance abuse problems. Responsibilities include facilitating legal transfer of custody under Emergency Custody Orders (ECO) or Temporary Detention Order(TDO), monitoring individuals during their stay, at the RASC, and advocating for individuals in crisis.
The officer provides scheduled hourly crisis intervention coverage and must exercise considerable initiative , judgement, and professionalism in the administration of Virginia CIT Essential Elements. This position requires extensive knowledge of Virginia mental health laws related to custody and detentions. The officer must demonstrate tact and courtesy when interacting with staff, clients, families, the public and community partners. The CIT RASC LEO reports directly to the CIT Coordinator.
The position of CIT RASC Transport LEO is responsible for:
  • Monitors the morale , well being , and safety of individuals at the RASC.
  • Completes admission paperwork and transfer-of custody documentation.
  • Debriefs first responders, Emergency Services(ES ) staff, and other essential personnel following critical incidents.
  • Conducts legal transfer of custody for individuals brought to the RASC by another law enforcement officer.
  • Maintains strong working relationships with judicial officials, law enforcement agencies, hospital emergency staff, and other crisis-intervention professionals
  • Provides transportation for diverted individuals when appropriate.
  • Stays informed of current laws, literature, and updates on ECO's , TDO's voluntary/involuntary admissions, and guardianship processes.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and listening skills.
  • Ability to read and prepare detailed reports, correspondence,forms ,medical charts and documentation.
  • Competence in logical reasoning, data collection, problem solving, and decision-making in emergency situations.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, confidently, and professionally with diverse audiences.
  • Ability to maintain composure and effectiveness when working with individuals in crisis.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • All other duties assigned.

Requirements
Education and Experience
Must be a sworn Virginia Law Enforcement Officer
Completion of Virginia 40- hour Core CIT Training is required.
Must be a Police Officer.
Must be a Sworn officer within Middle Peninsula Northern Neck!!
