Job description

The Counseling Services office seeks a temporary full-time time in-person Mental Health Counselor, to provide individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, case management, consultation, and outreach programming support on our Worcester campus. The Mental Health Counselor works directly with graduate and professional level students enrolled in year-round accelerated healthcare programs, providing clinical treatment and services that support their social and emotional needs and academic success. The Mental Health Counselor provides consultation to faculty and staff related to student mental health needs and supports the larger campus community by developing and initiating outreach programming specific to mental health and wellness topics. This is an in-person, full-time temporary 35 hour per week position through December 15, 2026.
Clinical: 75%
  • Provide individual and group counseling, crisis intervention and case management services via in-person and telehealth sessions
  • Provide crisis assessment, intervention, and safety planning using ethical and legal standards and best practices
  • Assist with the mental health related leave of absence and post-hospitalization processes for students in coordination with the Dean of Students office to support students successful return to the campus community and academic programs
  • Provide consultation to faculty and staff on student concerns as appropriate and consistent with ethical and legal standards
  • Maintain clinical notes and necessary clinical documentation, administrative forms, and electronic records in accordance with department policy, ethical standards, and state and federal laws
  • Engage and participate in clinical supervision and consultation, adhering to ethical standards, and best-practices
  • Requires an understanding of the educational, developmental, cultural, and social needs of a student population comprised of domestic and international students
  • Collaborate with fellow Counseling Services staff on centralization efforts to ensure that services, policies, and procedures remain equitable and consistent across campuses and implement Quality Improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in centralized staff trainings and retreats

Outreach and Programming: 20%
  • Develop and deliver mental health outreach programming and education to include campus-wide active and passive initiatives, periodic classroom presentations, and delivering orientation programming
  • Contribute to departmental resource development, including developing website resources and informational materials, as needed

Student Affairs Duties (5%)
  • Participate in University-wide committees and programming/events such as Orientation, Open Houses, Commencement, and other events as requested
  • Maintain knowledge related Title IX, FERPA and HIPPA regulations and response protocol
  • Assist with clinical support to campus partners related to student mental health needs, as requested
  • Periodic travel to other campuses as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Required:
  • Minimum of a Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling or related field
  • Current licensure or license eligible as LICSW, LMHC or equivalent through the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
  • Two plus years of experience directly relevant to individual counseling and crisis management
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, possess ability to organize and prioritize tasks, tolerate interruptions to workflow, and adapt to sudden shift in clinical demands
  • Ability to work extensively with electronic health records and MS Outlook
  • Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with members of the college community

Preferred:
  • Dual licensure or license-eligible for New Hampshire
  • Experience directly relevant to providing services on a college campus
  • Prior experience with delivering telehealth services
  • Experience working with and understanding the educational, cultural and social needs of an international student community

Physical Requirements:
  • Typical office or administrative working conditions. Staff is not exposed to adverse environmental conditions. Work is primarily sedentary in nature; there are no special physical demands.
  • Ability to work in-person on campus and travel to other campuses or events, as requested
