Job description

Role: Interim Senior Cost Analyst

Location: Mokena, IL

Pay: $45-$55 / hour

Benefits: This role is eligible for medical, dental, vision and 401k.

Position Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Interim Senior Cost Analyst to provide critical financial and operational support during a temporary transition. This individual will assume ownership of key cost accounting, financial reporting, and operational finance responsibilities while ensuring the continuity of essential business processes. The ideal candidate is a self-sufficient finance professional with strong analytical skills, advanced Excel capabilities, and experience supporting manufacturing or operations-focused environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed margin analysis, including equipment profitability and investigation/correction of inaccurate spare parts margins.
  • Create and maintain projects within the ERP system while producing ongoing project financial reporting and analysis.
  • Manage financial activities related to warranty, installation, allowances, and demo equipment.
  • Oversee fixed asset accounting, including tracking, reporting, and maintenance.
  • Prepare and maintain multi-state sales tax reporting files and supporting documentation.
  • Calculate and record agent commission accruals.
  • Support monthly plant reporting for multiple manufacturing locations, including inventory turns, margin analysis, and operational performance reporting.
  • Review and validate monthly journal entries, including prepaid expense amortization, intercompany corrections, usage charges, and other recurring accounting entries.
  • Assist with Concur expense management and related reporting activities.
  • Partner with accounting and finance leadership to ensure timely and accurate month-end reporting.
  • Document key processes and procedures to support knowledge transfer and improve continuity during the interim period.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
  • Several years of experience in cost accounting, cost analysis, or manufacturing finance.
  • Strong understanding of margin analysis, fixed assets, accruals, and financial reporting.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables and VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP functions.
  • Experience with ERP systems; PeopleSoft experience is a plus but not required.
  • Experience with Concur is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to quickly learn and document business processes.

Preferred Background

  • Manufacturing or industrial industry experience.
  • Experience supporting plant operations and operational financial reporting.
  • Ability to step into an interim role with minimal training and quickly assume ownership of critical financial processes.
