ABOUT
The Part-Time Planetarium Educator, Earth & Space Science Center is a part-time position responsible to the Director, Earth & Space Science Center. This position represents Tyler Junior College to school groups, faculty and the community. The person taking this job must be: strongly motivated, trustworthy, resourceful, not intimidated by technology, able to learn quickly, able to accomplish a job with very little supervision, willing to learn new things and have a good sense of humor.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Presenting planetarium programs in the Hudnall Planetarium, which can include movies as well as live-presentations
  • Serve as point of contact for school groups upon their arrival, and explain rules and procedures
  • Assist with hands-on, classroom activities for school and camp groups
  • Assist in maintaining a safe and clean environment in the planetarium, exhibit halls and classroom space
  • Assist in maintaining and updating the planetarium website
  • Assisting in the upkeep and maintenance of exhibit displays
  • Creation and performance of presentations at local schools for planetarium outreach projects
  • Performing other duties as assigned

  • Must be able to communicate effectively in person as well as in general telephone conversation
  • Must be able to work independently, respect confidentiality and maintain courtesy in dealing with students, faculty, staff and the community
  • Must have interpersonal skills

WHO YOU ARE
Required Education/Experience
  • High School diploma or equivalent
Preferred Education/Experience
  • Existing knowledge of astronomy or science

RETIREMENT
Part-Time Retirement

Part-time employees are required to participate in the part-time retirement fund. The retirement fund is invested in a group fixed annuity contract with Ohio National Life Insurance Company. The plan will provide you and your beneficiary with fully vested cash settlement or income benefits after termination of employment for any reason.

Employee and immediate family use of the Apache Recreation Center - an indoor weight and exercise center, 18-hole disc golf course, covered basketball course, and outdoor ping-pong table and cornhole. The cost is $5 per ID.
