While both roles involve land-related work, a Temporary Land Bank focuses on managing and revitalizing land assets temporarily, often within government or non-profit projects. A Land Acquisition Specialist primarily handles purchasing and negotiating land deals, usually in private or public sectors. The roles differ mainly in scope and purpose but share overlapping skills in land assessment and real estate knowledge.

What are some common challenges faced by Temporary Land Bank employees when managing and maintaining properties?

Temporary Land Bank employees often encounter challenges such as dealing with neglected or distressed properties, coordinating repairs and maintenance on a tight timeline, and ensuring compliance with local regulations. Additionally, they may need to balance multiple property assignments and collaborate closely with local government agencies, contractors, and community organizations. Effective communication and strong organizational skills are essential for navigating these complexities and ensuring properties are managed efficiently until their future use is determined.

What are Temporary Land Banks?

Temporary Land Banks are organizations or programs that acquire, hold, manage, and sometimes repurpose vacant, abandoned, or foreclosed properties for a limited period. Their main goal is to stabilize neighborhoods, prevent property decline, and facilitate the return of land to productive use, such as redevelopment or community projects. Unlike permanent land banks, temporary land banks operate with a specific, short-term mandate and often transfer properties to new owners or developers once their objectives are met.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Temporary Land Bank Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Temporary Land Bank Specialist, you typically need knowledge of real estate practices, property management, and relevant legal regulations, often supported by a degree in business, urban planning, or a related field. Familiarity with property management software, GIS mapping tools, and databases is commonly required. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are important soft skills in this role. These competencies ensure efficient management, accurate documentation, and successful collaboration with stakeholders in property acquisition and disposition projects.

Job description

Houston – Energy Corridor Area
Full-Time | 100% On-Site
Salary: $90,000 – $100,000

We are partnering with a privately held land and energy infrastructure company to hire an experienced Executive Assistant to provide high-level support to the CEO in both professional and personal capacities.
This is not a basic administrative role. The ideal candidate will serve as a true right hand to the CEO — someone highly organized, proactive, resourceful, and capable of managing constantly shifting priorities with professionalism and discretion. The environment moves quickly, so we are looking for someone who takes ownership, anticipates needs before being asked, and ensures nothing falls through the cracks.
Responsibilities:
  • Manage complex calendars, meetings, scheduling, and shifting priorities
  • Coordinate business and personal travel arrangements and accommodations
  • Screen emails and calls, prioritize communications, and draft responses when appropriate
  • Prepare correspondence, reports, presentations, and internal communications
  • Track projects, deadlines, and follow-up items to completion
  • Organize meetings, prepare materials, and maintain detailed documentation and files
  • Handle highly confidential business and personal matters with discretion
  • Manage expense reporting, reimbursements, and financial documentation
  • Assist with bill payments, wire transfers, ACH transactions, and banking coordination
  • Support process improvements related to operational and expense management workflows

Requirements:
  • Minimum 3+ years of recent Executive Assistant experience supporting a CEO, entrepreneur, high-net-worth individual, or senior executive REQUIRED
  • Strong financial acumen and experience handling expense management, reimbursements, payments, wire transfers, ACH transactions, or banking coordination REQUIRED
  • Must be highly organized, proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities independently
  • Strong technology skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, AI tools, and calendar management platforms
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and occasional after-hours responsiveness
  • Proven ability to handle confidential and sensitive information professionally
  • Strong communication skills and professional presence
  • BachelorÂ’s degree preferred but not required

This is an excellent opportunity for a polished, high-level Executive Assistant looking for a long-term opportunity supporting a dynamic executive in a fast-moving environment.
