About this Opportunity
Provides labor services to Public Works Maintenance, Sewer and/or Traffic Division as assigned.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Patches holes in streets with blacktop or concrete;
  • Assists the crack sealing crew within Streets workgroup;
  • Performs right of way landscaping;
  • Hand-sweeps streets to clean off debris;
  • Participates in planting and transplanting of young trees;
  • Assists with the installation, maintenance and repair of manholes, catch basins, storm and sanitary sewer mains and accurately records activities on departmental work order;
  • Patches holes in streets and City right of ways using a combination of asphalt, concrete, Portland cement concrete and granular backfill in conformance with City standards;
  • Assists in the operation of hydraulic and mechanical cleaning of sewer mains and related structures;
  • Assists in the operation of finding and correcting sources of infiltration and inflow into the collection system using television inspection equipment, smoke injection, flood water dye testing and physical inspection techniques;
  • Performs emergency and routine operations of pumps and associated equipment during times of flooding and sanitary sewer surcharge including night and weekend hours;
  • Assists a small crew engaged in painting street markings, designing, fabricating and installation of traffic control devices; and repairing traffic control marking fixtures;
  • Assists with mixing and applying paint for street markings, using motorized paint striper;
  • Drives vehicles and work tools to work locations;
  • Assists in rough carpentry;
  • Wears and properly uses safety equipment including personal protective equipment,.
  • Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with City policies, procedures and safety practices;
  • Attends work regularly at the designated place and time;
  • Performs related work as required.

Qualifications
Acceptable Experience and Training
  • Graduation from High School or GED; and
  • Experience with asphalt, carpentry, concrete, forestry, traffic signage, construction, sewer or related work preferred;
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

Required Special Qualifications
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License (minimum 18 years old)
  • Ability to work overtime and flexible shifts with short notice.
