Job SummaryThis position is responsible for providing assistance in the delivery of patient care and cooperatively managing patient flow in a fast-paced outpatient setting; performs testing and other complex diagnostic tests within the scope of practice; works with Occupational Health Services staff, to support clinic operations; and, works with the Health System and Campus departments to ensure all employees are managed appropriately.
Responsibilities*- Manage patient flow by rooming patients according to Occupational Health Services procedures
- Complete patient intake including documenting chief complaint, measuring vital signs, height and weight, visual acuity testing, Strep screening, Snellen eye testing, urinalysis (UA) dip testing, point-of-care testing, audiometry and spirometry testing, and administering injections
- Perform testing and procedures including administering and reading tuberculosis skin tests, immunizations, phlebotomy, Ishihara color vision testing, and drug screens (For Cause, HPRP, and Police pre-employment testing)
- Conduct New Employee Assessments according to Occupational Health Services workflows
- Perform qualitative and quantitative fit testing and educate employees on the proper fit, use, and care of N95 respirators, PAPRs, and other respiratory products in accordance with policy
- Prepare patients for examinations and escort patients to additional services, including imaging or emergency care, as appropriate
- Obtain, document, and communicate medical test results to providers
- Recognize patient conditions requiring immediate attention and escalate appropriately within established guidelines
- Coordinate appointments and scheduling within subspecialty clinics as needed
- Provide medical surveillance testing and support associated program activities
- Maintain inventory and stock of vaccines, equipment, and medical supplies and assist with ordering as directed
- Support vaccine management processes and maintain monthly expiration logs for medical supplies
- Ensure equipment and tools are properly maintained, cleaned, and operated according to manufacturer guidelines
- Access and obtain medical records and information from applicable systems as needed
- Provide general clerical support including data entry, documentation, and telephone communication
- Act as a preceptor and resource for other medical assistants while supporting team development and clinic operations
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and collaborate with staff to promote efficient and high-quality patient care
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications*Education/Experience- High school diploma or GED
- Completion of a Medical Assistant program, enrollment in a healthcare professional program, or equivalent experience (1?3 years)
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities- Knowledge of clinical workflows and patient care processes
- Basic medical terminology knowledge
- Experience in a healthcare environment
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
- Effective problem-solving skills
- Computer proficiency including Microsoft Office and Outlook
- Clerical, data-entry, and telephone communication skills
- Ability to perform clinical procedures relevant to the setting
Preferred Qualifications:- Medical Assistant diploma or equivalent experience
- Certification as Medical Assistant, EMT, or CNA
- Occupational Health experience
- Experience with Health RX, MiChart, Enterprise Health, or EHR systems
- CPR certification
- Phlebotomy certification
- Medical terminology training
