Position Summary
Hours Per Week: Up to 19.5 hours per week
Department: Fitness and Wellness Programs
Rate of Pay: $19.58 an hour
The Laboratory Technician will provide direct support for the implementation of the Fitness & Wellness (FAW) programs at the Desert Vista and West campuses. This position will assist in ensuring the proper use and maintenance of athletic equipment; provide fitness instructional support within the scope of qualifications; and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including all groups within a diverse community.
About Temporary Employment:
This position has 3 vacant position and will establish a qualified applicant pool for part-time temporary positions. Applications will remain active for 6 months to a year and selected candidates may be contacted as positions become available or when immediate staffing needs arise. Placement in the pool does not guarantee employment. The applicant pool will be refreshed annually.
Temporary applicants may be hired for specific assignments or placed in an applicant pool for future opportunities, depending on enrollment levels and business needs. If selected from this pool of applicants, candidates contacted will receive details regarding the specific assignment and will have the opportunity to confirm interest and availability.
We are seeking dedicated part-time temporary employees to join our qualified applicant pool. Selected candidates will be considered for placement as positions become available or when immediate staffing needs arise.
Part-time temporary roles offer flexible scheduling and the opportunity to support a diverse population of students in achieving their educational goals.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide general student support to include: performing basic assessments, providing training guidance, demonstrating proper equipment usage, explaining policies and procedures, and answering questions
  • Assist and monitor student aides
  • Oversee the use of the fitness center during operating hours; check equipment in and out for students
  • Provide general information to faculty, staff, students, and the public regarding the department and the laboratory
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary workplace in accordance with standards laboratory procedures; cleans equipment; performs preventive maintenance or minor repairs on laboratory equipment; assembles and tests new equipment
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Job Requirements/Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED and
  • One to three years of related experience and
  • Current First Aid/CPR/AED certifications within two months of hire and
  • Personal trainer certification from a recognized certifying body (ACSM, NSCA, ACE, or other nationally recognized certifying body) OR graduate of the PCC Fitness Certificate Program

Preferred:
  • Associate's Degree in related field
  • Three to five years of related experience

  • OSHA and ADA rules, regulations, and guidelines
  • Technical knowledge in athletic equipment maintenance and repair, and current trends in athletic equipment
  • Safety procedures for using fitness machines and equipment

Physical Requirements:
Positions in this class typically require: talking, hearing, seeing, repetitive motions and fine finger movements - using the fingers to manipulate and handle objects such as typing, sorting papers, activating buttons, sorting/separating small parts; balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, and lifting.
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Incumbents may be subjected to moving fitness equipment, mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, dusts, chemicals, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.
