The Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) is seeking enthusiastic Gymnastics Instructors to join our dynamic and growing Gymnastics Program! In this rewarding role, you will coach and instruct students of all ages and skill levels in both recreational classes and competitive team programs.
DPR's well-established gymnastics program offers more than 400 classes annually and supports two successful competitive teams - the Arlington Aerials and Arlington Tigers - which compete at the state, regional, and national levels. Join a passionate, diverse team dedicated to providing high-quality gymnastics instruction to the Arlington community and beyond!
Responsibilities
Specific duties include:
  • Providing tailored Gymnastics instruction to participants individual abilities while evaluating student performance;
  • Preparing for class or team instruction and executing lesson plans and curriculum;
  • Setting up equipment prior to class or practice and securing equipment afterward;
  • Inspecting equipment and reporting unsafe equipment to supervisor; and
  • Completing required class or team administrative work, such as attendance reports.

Currently our program is looking for people who can work weekday evenings, and weekends (both Saturday and Sunday) with experience in any of the following areas:
  • Recreational Classes (preschool, youth, and adult);
  • Adapted Gymnastics (participants with disabilities); and
  • Competitive Teams (all USAG Club, Xcel, and Developmental levels for men and women).

Applications are being accepted for the following positions:
Gymnastics Instructor II starts at: $26.20 per hour.
This position is typically assigned to beginner and/or intermediate level classes and may be assigned to teach therapeutic recreation classes. Concepts taught throughout the classes are moderately complex.
Gymnastics Instructor III starts at: $30.28 per hour
This position is typically assigned to higher-level classes, competitive teams, and may be assigned to teach therapeutic recreation classes or sections specifically designed for participants with disabilities. Candidates in this position must have the knowledge and ability to serve as a substitute instructor for any other classes when required or may serve as a substitute instructor for some competitive teams as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements: High School Diploma/GED; plus
Gymnastics Instructor II:
  • 800 hours of technical Gymnastics experience; and
  • 50 hours as an instructor.

Gymnastics Instructor III:
  • 1200 hours of technical Gymnastics experience; and
  • 50 hours as an instructor.

*Technical experience may come from a variety of sources, such as work experiences, volunteer experiences or formal athletic participation.
Substitution: Additional education may be substituted for experience requirement, with each year of post-high school education substituting for 400 hours of technical experience. However, additional education may not be substituted for the instructing hours requirement.
Desirable: Preference may be given to candidates the following:
  • Current or previous gymnastics instruction through coaching or teaching;
  • Current or previous participation in a recreational or competitive gymnastics program;
  • USA Gymnastics, First Aid, CPR certifications and/or other gymnastics certifications; and/or
  • Working with children of all ages.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • A complete application will include an attached resume which highlights how your background and experience align with the qualifications for this position.
  • Must possess or obtain the First Aid/CPR/AED certifications within 60 days of hire.
  • A pre-hire background check will be made on all candidates who are selected for employment, which may include the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit history. You may be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information.
  • The applicant must possess, or obtain by the time of appointment, a valid driver license, and provide proof, or the applicant must have the ability to use alternative methods of transportation to perform assigned duties at locations other than the primary worksite.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Work Hours: Typical hours are weekday evenings (4pm-9pm), weekends (Saturday: 8:00am-6pm, Sunday: 8am-7pm). Most hours are in the evening and on weekends (Saturday and Sunday).
The official job title is Recreation Instructor II and III.
