Testing Technician (Temporary / Contract)
Engagement type: Temporary / contract, full-time (40 hrs/week)
Estimated duration: 4-6 months (potential to extend)
Location: On-site, San Diego, CA
Summary
A San Diego product development engineering firm is seeking a temporary Testing Technician to support a hands-on test effort on a device/machine under development. The technician will execute test protocols, operate test equipment and fixtures, collect and record data, and document and report findings to the engineering team. This is a lab/bench-based role well suited to a detail-oriented technician who is comfortable working from written procedures and producing clean, accurate test documentation.
Key Responsibilities
  • Set up, operate, and tear down test equipment, fixtures, and instrumentation to run tests on a device or machine
  • Execute test protocols and procedures accurately and consistently
  • Record test data, observations, and results with a high degree of accuracy and traceability
  • Document findings and prepare clear, organized test reports and summaries for engineers
  • Identify, flag, and log anomalies, failures, or out-of-spec conditions during testing
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe test environment and follow all lab and safety procedures
  • Communicate status and results to the engineering team; support troubleshooting as needed

Qualifications
  • Prior experience as a test/testing technician, lab technician, engineering technician, or similar hands-on role
  • Comfort operating test equipment and instrumentation and working from written test procedures
  • Strong data-recording and technical-documentation skills; attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to write clear, well-organized test reports
  • Reliable, self-directed, and able to commit to a full-time on-site schedule for the project duration
  • Associate degree or technical certificate in a relevant field a plus, or equivalent hands-on experience

Preferred / Nice-to-Have
  • Experience testing in a regulated or product-development environment (e.g., medical device, biotech instrumentation, printers, or complex commercial/industrial products)
  • Familiarity with verification/validation (V&V) testing and test documentation practices
  • Comfort with mechanical, electrical, and/or electromechanical device testing
