Temporary Graphic Design information

What is a temporary graphic designer?

Temporary graphic designers are creative professionals hired on a short-term basis to work on design projects, such as branding, advertising, or digital content. Companies often bring them in to cover staff absences, manage busy periods, or handle specific campaigns without committing to a full-time hire. They may work as freelancers, through staffing agencies, or on contract. Temporary graphic designers use their skills in software like Adobe Creative Suite to create visually appealing materials that meet the client's needs. Their roles can range from producing digital assets to designing print collateral, depending on the project's requirements.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a temporary graphic designer?

To thrive as a Temporary Graphic Designer, you need a solid grasp of design principles, proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, and a portfolio demonstrating relevant experience or education in graphic design. Familiarity with tools like Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and sometimes project management software is typically required. Creativity, adaptability, and strong communication skills help you quickly understand client needs and work effectively within tight deadlines. These skills are crucial for delivering high-quality visual content on short notice and integrating smoothly into different teams or projects.

What are some common challenges faced by temporary graphic designers, and how can they adapt quickly to new teams or projects?

  • You are comfortable presenting work, articulating rationale and participating in critique.

  • You keep a pulse on emerging trends, tools and technologies and apply them when appropriate.

  • You contribute to an environment of creativity, collaboration and high standards - and are able to coach and support more junior designers.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Design creative concepts and multi-platform visual design across campaigns and initiatives.

  • Create and enhance sophisticated visual assets, including illustrations, graphics, page layouts.

  • Translate complex ideas, messages and data into clear, engaging and visually compelling communication.

  • Manage multiple, deadline-driven projects while maintaining a high standard of quality, brand consistency and craft.

WHAT YOU WILL HAVE:

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in graphic design, visual communications, or a related field.

  • 3-5 years of design experience, ideally within brand, marketing, advertising agency or in-house creative teams.

  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills.

  • A high level of professionalism, resourcefulness, and creativity.

  • A diverse portfolio demonstrating a passion for your work. Preference will be given to those candidates that have a portfolio demonstrating design agility across a variety of media.

  • Expert proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat), and Microsoft Office (including PowerPoint and Word).

  • Experience working with print suppliers, providing final files and running preflight.

  • A high level of professionalism, resourcefulness, and ownership of craft.

ADVANTANGES:

  • Targeted yearly compensation includes a competitive base salary plus incentive, based on predetermined targets.

  • Hybrid working arrangement: you may work from home, come into the office when required and sometimes travel to client meetings or events.

  • Our downtown Edmonton office includes access to a world-class top-floor gym in our summit wellness centre.

  • Flexible, impactful benefits-right from the source!

  • The chance to make a positive difference in people's lives.

This position will remain open until a suitable candidate is selected.
