Job description

JOB OVERVIEW
The Technical Writer develops, writes, and edits material for reports, manuals, briefs, technical specifications, instruction books, catalogs, and related technical and administrative publications concerned with work methods and procedures, installation, operation, and/or maintenance of machinery and other equipment. The technical writer will collaborate with the supervisor and the team to refine requirements by interfacing with the project manager and site lead.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prepare and edit briefing books, documents, letters, memorandums, reports, briefings, and administrative forms.
  • Develop, edit, and disseminate read-ahead packages, agendas, and PowerPoint Presentations to meeting participants.
  • Apply office organizational procedures and personnel knowledge to make independent decisions and serve as a credible resource for the government leads and the team.
  • Participate in team editing and quality control processes to ensure deliverables maintain a high level of quality.
  • Write feature news articles and edit speeches, talking points, congressional testimony, and other written materials to support executives and the leadership team.
  • Review content to ensure consistent style, including accuracy of spelling, grammar, punctuation, syntax, and content; comply with brand, layout, and style guides; and rewrite content as needed. Must also:
    • Adhere to and revise section standard operating procedures and workflows.
    • Communicate clearly and promptly with the manager and in-house agency staff.
    • Use sound business ethics, including the protection of high propriety and confidential information.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Must possess a Top Secret Security Clearance with Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) Eligibility.
  • Must have a Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college with at least four (4) years of technical writing experience for the Federal Government. A minimum of eight (8) years of specialized experience that is in or directly related to the line of work of the position applied for may be substituted for education.
  • Must have four (4) years of exceptional proficiency in writing and editing skills using MS Office.
  • Must have the ability to multi-task, prioritize staff requests, set expectations, and work under tight deadlines.
  • Must have meticulous attention to detail and effectively prepare professional correspondence.
  • Must be self-sufficient and resourceful, able to work independently, and take ownership of the project.
