Job description

Duties Summary Arranges and assigns equitable starting times for individuals and groups of players at a golf course; regulates traffic on the golf course; and performs other related duties as required. There is one (1) immediate permanent part-time vacancy with the Department of Parks and Recreation - Hilo Municipal Golf Course. The eligible list may be used for other permanent and temporary vacancies as they arise during the life of the list.

Salary will be pro-rated for part-time positions. Temporary appointment may lead to conversion to permanent appointment. Examples of Duties Registers players and assigns them to the course.

Groups players into foursome and makes other arrangements for spacing where feasible. Arranges the order in which golfers start from the first tee. Starts groups of golf players; spaces groups so that they will not interfere with one another in the playing course.

Maintains order at the first tee and checks other parts of the course. Registers starting time for clubs and individuals for weekend or tournament play. Keeps records.

Enforces rules of the course; answers questions concerning golf course rules. Collects golf fees and makes deposits. Minimum Qualification Requirements Training and Experience: A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to: graduation from high school, and two (2) years experience in work involving meeting and dealing with the public.

License Requirement: possession of a valid State of Hawai`i driver's license (Class 3) or any other valid comparable driver's license at time of filing. (You will be required to submit your valid driver's license at time of hire.) Examination: All applicants who meet the minimum qualification requirements will be assigned a score of 70 points. An education and experience evaluation will be conducted based on the applicant's training, education and experience as presented in the application

If in-person interviews and/or further testing are required, applicants who are referred to the hiring department/agency must be available to participate in person and at their own expense at that phase of the selection process. Knowledge of: golf course layout and rules; golf terminology and etiquette; fundamentals of the game of golf. Ability to: make arithmetic computations; compare names and numbers; deal tactfully and effectively with the public and employees; follow oral and written instructions.
