Job description

Position Overview Management level professional position in the Environmental Services Department under general direction of the Engineer Manager/Strategic Services Assistant Director requiring thorough knowledge of analytical processes related to managing and manipulating Geographical Information Systems to coordinate GIS support services throughout the department. Supports various applications throughout the organization that integrate with the GIS system. Provides leadership and directions to assigned staff.

Summary of Job Duties Provides input into the Department's overall GIS strategic direction. Supervises staff providing technical support. Develops and implements long- and short-term GIS plans, goals and priorities.

Participates in preparation and management of the GIS budget and resources. Perform maintenance and backups of supporting relational object and standard database structures and support applications. Manage and ensure integrity of records by developing databases, setting procedures and policies, developing mapping and database links, developing spreadsheets, reporting on utility inventories and managing GIS metadata for the department.

Meets and communicates with internal users, vendors, consultants, and local agencies and organizations in determining most appropriate approach in providing GIS functionality and database information. Serves as liaison between city, county and state GIS agencies for standards and cooperative data sharing; sustains a close working relationship with IT department to maintain connectivity and links to enterprise RDMS. Oversees guidance and customer support to GIS users and implements training for custom GIS applications.

(Performs Related Duties as Required) Minimum Qualifications and Requirements Bachelor's degree in GIS, Environmental or Computer Science, Engineering or closely related fields plus four (4) years of relevant experience using database analysis, including two (2) years of experience with GIS; or education, training and/or experience in an amount equal to the minimum qualifications stated above. Supplemental Information Driving Requirement: Must maintain a current valid United States driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
