Job description

Tool & Die Maker โ€“ First Shift

Jagemann's precision tool room is hiring a Tool & Die Maker to operate advanced machining equipment on critical tooling components. You'll work in a temperature-controlled environment while providing tool building, modifications, and repairs.

What You'll Do

  • Construct, alter, and repair transfer press dies, blocks, inserts, punches, fingers, slides, and mechanical press parts. Finish, polish, fit, align, and assemble tooling sets for press installation.
  • Interpret blueprints, sketches, and verbal descriptions. Perform close-tolerance work where no design exists, using only a defective part as a pattern to fabricate replacements.
  • Machine hardened steels, carbide, and exotic materials. Adjust speeds, feeds, and tooling based on material properties. Develop effective methods for new or unusual metals.
  • Devise and construct temporary fixtures and holding devices for unusual tooling sizes. Develop custom soft jaws for non-standard parts. Adapt standard machine tools to unusual applications.
  • Participate in design and development of new, experimental, and prototype tooling. Assist in analyzing tooling and part quality problems and implementing corrective action.
  • Direct work of and train apprentices and pressroom technicians. Provide CNC troubleshooting guidance and occasional multi-machine oversight.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on CNC equipment. Sharpen non-insert tools. Keep work areas clean and organized.
  • Follow all Environmental Health & Safety procedures.

  • High school diploma plus machining or metalworking training
  • Mazak programming certification
  • Partial completion of company-specified Machine Tool Operation curriculum
  • CAD/CAM and Solutionware training
  • Journeyman Card in Tool & Die preferred
  • Journeyman Card in Machining
  • Strong knowledge of material machining characteristics
  • Attention to detail and ability to hold close tolerances
  • Familiarity with Environmental Health & Safety procedure
