Minimum Qualifications
Position Summary
Work involves 50% fieldwork and 50% work processing samples in the laboratory. Fieldwork includes but is not limited to helping to plant, maintain grain and forage crops as well as sampling field trials for insects and various plant measurements. Lab work includes but is not limited to sorting and inspecting plant samples for insects and other organisms and various other measurements. Some processing of samples may be needed. Data entry in Excel spreadsheets also is needed. Work will be mostly during hot conditions in the summer. Duties also may sometimes need out-of-town travel to research plots during the workday. The employee receives specific work instructions at the beginning of each new job and work is usually closely supervised; however, constant supervision is not necessary as many tasks are routine and repetitive and can be carried on without difficulty once they are learned.
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position
High school or equivalent combination of education and work experience in the lab and field plots or a related area. Other training will be provided as appropriate.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Work with or without supervision. Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Physical Demands
Bend and lift up to 50 pounds, work in a laboratory for multiple hours a day. Duties also include intermittent out-of-town travel to research plots during the workday. Driving as needed for job duties.
