Job description

Davis-Ulmer (DU) Family of Companies is a network of fire protection, life safety, and security service companies, protecting people and property across 30+ locations and 11 states. Grunau Fire, with roots dating back to 1920, provides fire protection and life safety services across Wisconsin, Florida, Indiana, Ohio, and Pennsylvania, living our motto, "we protect what you value most."
Due to continued growth, we are looking to add a Fire Alarm Technician to our Milwaukee, WI team. In this role, you will install, program, test, inspect, and service fire alarm systems for a wide range of commercial, industrial, and institutional clients, ensuring each system operates reliably and in compliance with applicable codes. Success in this role requires strong technical aptitude, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship and excellent customer service.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Install, program, test, and inspect fire alarm systems and related life safety equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair fire alarm system deficiencies.
  • Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance in accordance with NFPA codes and standards.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications.
  • Complete and submit accurate service reports, inspection documentation, and required paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Communicate professionally with customers, coworkers, and the authority having jurisdiction (AHJ).
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and company vehicle in good working condition.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience installing, inspecting, or servicing fire alarm systems.
  • NICET Fire Alarm certification (NICET Level II preferred).
  • Valid Wisconsin driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical documents.
  • Strong troubleshooting, communication, and customer service skills.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequently required to climb ladders, stairs, and scaffolding, and to work at heights.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach in confined or elevated spaces.
  • Work may be performed in varying environmental conditions, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Ability to travel to job sites as required.

The wage for this role is $30 to $40 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
