Job description

Johns Hopkins Intrastaff is the internal staffing agency for the Johns Hopkins Health System and partner hospitals, providing temporary support to a variety of the Johns Hopkins locations. Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD is hiring a Pathology Assistant.    

Schedule:

  • Monday - Friday  9:00 AM-5:30 PM, no weekends
    Monday - Friday 1:00 PM -9:30 PM, no weekends

Pay Rate: $65-$67


  • A pathologist assistant is qualified by academic and practical training to provide the following services under the general direction and supervision of a pathologist: performs gross examination and dissection of all surgical pathology specimens, including complex surgical resections, description and tissue sectioning for histological preparation.
  • Obtains specimens from the operating rooms and performs appropriate examination including frozen sectioning and reported gross.
  • Specimen photography and radiography as needed.
  • Collects and distributes tissue to tumor bank and investigators.
  • Performs gross examination of complex surgical specimens, including dissection, description and tissue sectioning for histological preparation (see training checklist for details).
  • Consistently verifies patient information on specimen and requisition.
  • Accurately dissects specimens and selects proper tissue sections according to department protocol.
  • Accurately describes specimens clearly and concisely.
  • Performs specimen photography and radiography as needed
  • Collects and distributes tissue to tumor bank and/or researchers and investigators as needed
  • Use of the follow equipment/tools: Cryostat, computer, photography equipment, gross stations, dictation systems, telephone/intercom, microscope, cassette etcher, x-ray machine and faxitron, x-ray film developer, and Stryker and bone saws.

  • Graduation from a NAACLS accredited post baccalaureate Pathologists’ Assistant Training Program
  • ASCP BOR certified (or ASCP BOR exam eligible) or completion of a Bachelor’s degree with a major or minor, or equivalent in any of the biological or allied health sciences and Pathologist Assistant/Grossing experience
  • Must be certified PA (ASCP or department approved certifying agency)
  • Minimum of 1 year experience is required
