Job description

Job Description
Dewberry is seeking an MS4 Environmental Scientist/Planner for our Baltimore (Owings Mills), MD office. This position will support a growing water resources practice in the areas of National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (NPDES MS4) and Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) compliance. Tasks include MS4 permit compliance activities (illicit discharge inspections, BMP inspections, watershed assessment and planning); infrastructure resilience and mitigation planning; hydrologic and hydraulic analysis; stormwater design; stream restoration planning and design; and GIS work to support federal, state and local clients in the Mid-Atlantic region.

Responsibilities
  • Performs NPDES MS4 compliance tasks.
  • Performs watershed restoration planning and design.
  • Performs Chesapeake Bay TMDL related planning and design.
  • Conducts stream assessments and stream restoration planning.
  • Contributes technically on regulatory compliance activities.
  • Conducts watershed assessment, management, planning and design.
  • Prepares habitat, ecosystem, and wetland assessments.
  • Performs hydrologic, hydraulic and water quality studies.
  • Performs geospatial data analysis in support of water resource planning tasks.
  • Must be willing/able to perform field work.
  • Opportunities to engage/interact with the public on stormwater related issues.
  • Prepare task scopes and manage schedules and budgets
  • May require serving as a Task Manager overseeing junior environmental scientists or engineers.
  • May require providing on-site staff augmentation services

Required Skills & Required Experience
Required Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, civil engineering, water resources or related field is required.
  • Hands-on experience with environmental assessment processes and ArcGIS required.
  • Experience with MicroStation is not required but preferred.
  • 4-8 years of experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to perform in a collaborative environment.
  • Must be able to work independently and lead a project team.

Preferred Skills/Certifications:
  • Knowledge of NPDES MS4/TMDL.
  • Experience with environmental permitting and planning.
  • Experience with the MDE and other local, state and federal permitting agencies.
  • Knowledge of stormwater and environmental regulations and permitting.
  • Knowledge or experience in project design/management.

*The salary range for this position is: $81,000 - $104,000*
