The Opportunity
Tetra Tech is looking for a part-time, mid-level Environmental Scientist / Field Technician based in Honolulu, HI to provide support on various environmental projects.

Position Summary
The selected candidate will support a variety of contracts, including federal, state, local, and commercial clients. Responsibilities will help support environmental due diligence and compliance efforts for projects across Hawaii.  

This is a PART TIME POSITION, with no guaranteed hours to start.  The position may become full time pending project needs.

Essential Job Functions (Required)
The following duties are considered essential to the role. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions:
    A minimum of 5 years of environmental consulting experience in Hawaii is required for this position, including writing and reviewing submittals to the DOH HEER Office 
    Overall familiarity with the DOH HEER Office program - TGM, SAPs, RAWPs, EHMPs, C-EHMPs, iHEER, site inspections for compliance, etc.
    Demonstrated experience conducting site investigations, and practical field experience performing multi-media sampling including groundwater, soil and soil gas. 
    Managing projects 
    Interacting with clients in person (field/office) and over the phone (zoom, MS Teams, etc.)
    Working on field projects managed under state and federal regulatory programs 
    Knowledgeable in preparing technical reports (Sampling and Analysis Plans, Phase I and II ESAs). 
    Knowledgeable in preparing proposals, including obtaining vendor/subcontractor and equipment costs to properly complete the job.
    Knowledge of state and federal regulations is expected
    Analytical skills related to qualitative and quantitative data
    Strong technical and non-technical writing
    Highly motivated, customer focused, and work well in a team environment
    Excellent interpersonal, communication, client interaction and project management skills are required
    Information and data analysis
    Multi-tasking and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and strong organizational skills


Required Qualifications (Required)
    Bachelor's Degree in environmental sciences or physical sciences (e.g., geology, biology hydrology, toxicology, health physics).
    Years of Experience:   5+ years
    Proficiency with MS Office applications is required.
    Passing a motor vehicle record background check and maintaining a valid driver's license and safe driving record is required.
    Background check for base access.

Preferred Qualifications
    Experience with remedial design, feasibility studies, hazardous waste site investigations, site remediation, air quality, ecological restoration, radiological issues, and/or water resources a plus
    Experience with Department of Defense (Department of War) projects/contracts a plus - specifically Navy and/or Army Corps of Engineers

Physical Requirements (Required)
The physical demands described here represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Reasonable accommodations may be made. 
    Conduct necessary fieldwork in a variety of environments and topography and possibly uneven terrain; predominantly developed sites, but work may include farmland/agricultural fields.  
    Use and wear personal protective equipment.
    Carry field equipment (35 to 40 pounds).
    Ability to use a sledge hammer and slide hammer to advance soil sampling probes
    Ability to use a hand-auger or hammer drill and portable generator for soil sample collection, if necessary.
    You must be able to drive on a regular basis.


Work Environment/Environmental Factors (Required)
    This position involves both office and field environments. 
    Potential to work in inclement weather (i.e. rain)
    Field projects are predominantly various sites across Oahu, but will include neighbor island trips for site inspections, sampling, etc.  
    Pending company-wide project needs, travel to the mainland may be required for extended periods of time (i.e. regional fire or other broad/widespread emergency response [i.e. Statewide or agency wide response, such as EPA or other high profile project needs])


Additional Information (Required)

    Work schedule: This is a part-time position with no guaranteed hours to start.  When working, hours are generally Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm.  Neighbor island travel may require early flights (before 07:00 am) and late returns (after 5:00 pm).
    Overtime requirements:  Overtime may be required pending schedule required to complete the scope of work.
    Night/weekend requirements: Overnight and weekend travel may be required
    Work location: Hybrid - Option to work from home (on Oahu only) / or from our Honolulu, HI office, depending on project needs and convenience).  No relocation. Must be living on Oahu. 
    Travel requirements: Work occurs primarily on various project sites across Oahu.  Some work will include neighbor island trips for site inspections, sampling, etc.  
    Other: Potential future opportunities to work on the mainland may occur.  Travel to the mainland would require extended periods of time for regional fire /disaster response, i.e. Statewide or agency-wide response, such as EPA or other high profile project needs).
    This arrangement is subject to review and may change at the company's discretion

The Salary Range for this position is $36.06 - $45.68 depending on education, experience, skills, and location.
