What is a Temporary Enterprise Risk Management role?

A Temporary Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) role involves assisting an organization in identifying, assessing, and managing potential risks that could impact its objectives, but on a short-term or contract basis. These professionals help implement risk management strategies, monitor compliance, and support the development of policies to mitigate various risks, such as financial, operational, or reputational threats. Temporary ERM positions are often filled during periods of transition, special projects, or to cover leaves of absence, providing expertise without a long-term commitment.

They must rapidly assess existing risk frameworks, identify gaps, and communicate findings effectively, all within a limited timeframe. Building trust and collaborating with stakeholders across departments is crucial for gathering accurate information and implementing risk mitigation strategies. Being proactive, adaptable, and utilizing strong communication skills can help overcome these challenges and ensure a positive impact during the assignment.

These skills and qualities are vital for identifying, assessing, and mitigating organizational risks efficiently during limited-term assignments.

Ready to take your career global?

Make your mark at one of the biggest names in payments. We're looking for a Senior Director, Cyber Risk Management to join our ever-evolving Information Security (InfoSec) team and help shape the future of global commerce. In this highly visible leadership role, you will strengthen the cybersecurity posture of a global enterprise by driving the identification, evaluation, and resolution of critical cyber risks that protect our clients, colleagues, and business. You'll lead a team of trusted cybersecurity experts, influence enterprise-wide risk decisions, and partner across technology, business, and risk functions to deliver measurable reductions in residual risk. This is an opportunity to build scalable governance, accelerate innovation through advanced analytics and artificial intelligence (AI), and help ensure Global Payments continues to power secure, reliable commerce around the world.

What you'll own
  • Lead the enterprise strategy for cybersecurity issue and risk management, driving measurable reductions in residual risk and ensuring critical control gaps are remediated within approved timelines.
  • Shape risk-informed business decisions by providing authoritative guidance on cybersecurity risk ratings, remediation approaches, compensating controls, and risk acceptance determinations across the organization.
  • Influence executive and governance outcomes through data-driven reporting, actionable risk insights, and clear visibility into emerging threats, remediation progress, and enterprise risk trends.
  • Drive accountability across technology and business teams, partnering with stakeholders to accelerate issue resolution, address systemic control weaknesses, and strengthen the overall security posture of the enterprise.
  • Advance the maturity and efficiency of cyber risk operations by leveraging automation, intelligent workflows, advanced analytics, and continuous process improvements that enhance oversight and decision-making.
What you'll bring
  • Proven success leading cybersecurity risk management, information security, information technology (IT) governance, or controls programs within a large, complex, and highly regulated environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior leaders and drive accountability across teams without direct reporting relationships, delivering measurable risk reduction and business outcomes.
  • Deep expertise in cybersecurity control frameworks, enterprise risk management practices, regulatory requirements, and control domains such as cloud security, encryption, privileged access management, network security, and vulnerability management.
  • Exceptional communication and analytical skills, with the ability to translate complex technical risks into clear, actionable recommendations for executive, business, and technology audiences.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or a related field, along with experience building, developing, and leading high-performing teams.
It's a bonus if you have
  • Master's degree in Cybersecurity, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC), or Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA).
  • Experience within the financial services, payments, or fintech industry and familiarity with governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) platforms such as Archer.
