Brightpoint Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education and is the third largest of Virginia's 23 community colleges. The college is located within the Greater Richmond metropolitan area. It serves students and the community at its two campuses, in Chester and Midlothian; online; and in locations throughout its service area. General Information: Adjunct faculty teaching is limited to a maximum of 8 credit hours in the summer semester, 12 credit hours in the fall semester, and 12 credit hours in the spring semester. These limits are for total number of credit hours taught in the Virginia's Community Colleges (VCCS). Additional restrictions may apply depending upon other positions occupied within VCCS.
Responsibilities: Brightpoint Community College is a two-year institution of higher education within the Virginia Community College System. The college serves students across the region with a mission to provide accessible, high-quality educational opportunities that support workforce development and lifelong learning.
The Division of Engineering, Business, and Technology at Brightpoint Community College seeks qualified adjunct instructors to support and enhance our Engineering Technology programs. The successful candidate will teach foundational and applied topics in Robotics and Mechatronic systems. This position will support classroom and laboratory instruction in areas such as sensors and actuators, industrial automation, robotic kinematics, microcontrollers, PLCs, control systems, and system integration. The instructor will deliver hands-on, application-focused learning to prepare students for careers in advanced manufacturing, automation, and engineering technology.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
Demonstrated knowledge in one or more of the following areas:
  • Sensors, actuators, and system instrumentation
  • Robotics fundamentals, robotic arms, kinematics, and automation
  • Mechatronic systems, electromechanical integration
  • Microcontrollers, PLCs, embedded systems, or industrial controls
  • Ability to provide effective classroom and laboratory instruction.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to support diverse student populations.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to manage multiple instructional responsibilities and meet established deadlines.
  • Ability to demonstrate best practices in teaching engineering or technical courses in a community college environment
