Eastern Connecticut State University (ECSU) is one of the State of Connecticut (http://www.ct.gov/) institutions of higher learning and the state's designated public liberal arts university. We are recruiting for two (2) University Driver (https://www.jobapscloud.com/CT/specs/classspecdisplay.asp?ClassNumber=8940TC&LinkSpec=RecruitNum2&R1=&R3=) positions to work on our beautiful campus located in Willimantic, CT. Our university fleet provides students with first and second shift shuttles 7 days per week.

Position Highlights:

  • Part-time, temporary during the academic semesters.

  • First Shift - Monday - Thursday (10am - 5pm)

  • Second Shift, Monday - Friday (4pm - 11pm)

  • Valid CDL license with passenger endorsement required.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

At the University of Connecticut and Connecticut State College and Universities this class is accountable for driving vehicles to transport passengers to local or distant points according to a time schedule.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Drives college or university vehicles, including but not limited to transit buses, over-the-road coaches, service plate vehicles, vans, passenger cars and other motorized conveyances;

  • Makes daily or overnight trips;

  • Picks up passengers at specified areas and transports to destination;

  • Debarks passengers and assists with baggage;

  • Regulates heating, lighting, and ventilating system for passenger comfort;

  • Complies with local traffic regulations and reports delays or accidents;

  • Inspects vehicle being used and checks gas, oil, and water before departure;

  • Keeps records;

  • May make minor repairs and change tires;

  • May perform automotive maintenance work as assigned;

  • Performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

  • Considerable knowledge of traffic and motor vehicle laws and regulations;

  • Knowledge of the standard tools, materials, methods and practices of automotive and equipment mechanics;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Four (4) years of experience driving public service vehicles.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE

Two (2) years of the General Experience must have included driving transit buses or over-the-road coaches.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

Graduation from a vocational or technical school with coursework in automotive mechanics may be substituted for two (2) years of the General Experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to candidates with a CDL Class B, with a F Public Passenger endorsement and valid DOT Medical card.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Incumbents in this class may be required by the appointing authority to possess appropriate current licenses, permits and/or certifications.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Incumbents in this class must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility and visual and auditory acuity, and must maintain such physical fitness as to be able to perform the duties.

  • A physical examination may be required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbents in this class may be required to lift moderate to heavy weights; may be exposed to hazardous road conditions.
