Job description

Position Overview
The Director of Content Strategy leads the development and execution of a comprehensive content marketing strategy for TIAA's Wealth Marketing team. This role drives editorial direction across a growing portfolio of channels, including a monthly newsletter, web, organic social, webinars, and client communications, ensuring that content consistently engages and educates audiences whether they are prospects exploring wealth management options or existing clients navigating key financial milestones. Working in close partnership with the Chief Investment Office (CIO) organization, Distribution, Digital & Customer Experience, and the Retirement Solutions Content Marketing team, this director-level position balances strategic vision with hands-on writing and operational execution while directing a team of two content professionals.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
  • Develop and own the strategic content roadmap for Wealth Marketing, defining channel priorities, audience segmentation approaches, and editorial standards
  • Leverage audience insights and performance data to develop a deep understanding of what resonates with target audiences and apply those learnings to continuously refine the content roadmap, editorial priorities, and channel strategies.
  • Expand the content program into emerging channels including webinars, digital platforms, and personalized client communications or campaigns
  • Translate complex financial and investment topics into accessible, engaging narratives that reflect TIAA's expertise and resonate with target audiences
  • Partner closely with the Retirement Solutions Content Marketing team to share content, align on shared audiences, and elevate best practices across both teams
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of two content professionals responsible for producing and distributing articles across the monthly newsletter, web, and organic social channels
  • Oversee editorial planning and content calendars, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality content across all channels
  • Serve as the content strategy subject matter expert and thought partner for senior leaders across Marketing, the CIO organization, Distribution, and Digital & Customer Experience
  • Build and maintain strong cross-functional relationships, navigating competing priorities and aligning diverse stakeholders around a shared content vision
  • Lead cross-functional working teams to execute content initiatives requiring coordination across creative, legal, compliance, and marketing operations

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, English, or related field
  • Experience presenting content strategies, editorial plans, and performance results to executive audiences, adapting communication style to different stakeholders' needs
  • Experience with financial services regulations (FINRA, SEC)
  • 2+ years of people management experience
  • Proven track record developing and executing multi-channel content strategies that deliver measurable engagement and business results
  • Strong writing and editorial judgment with the ability to craft and evaluate content across formats and audiences
  • Experience managing complex, cross-functional initiatives in a matrixed organization
  • Familiarity with audience segmentation and content personalization strategies
  • Knowledge of SEO principles and content performance measurement
  • Proficiency with content management systems and digital publishing platforms

Base Pay Range: $104,000/yr - $146,000/yr
Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual discretionary incentive programs, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans).
