Direct Care and Treatment (DCT) is seeking an individual to join our HIMS (Health Information Management Services) Medical Records Department for an exciting and rewarding opportunity as a Medical Records Technician 2! This position will respond to requests for release of patient information from the medical record, ensuring that all data privacy rules, state and federal statues are met. The Medical Records Technician 2 will manage Health Information statistical data as required by accrediting and licensing agencies and assist and participate in tasks as identified in the operation of the HIMS Department. This position will also manage the medical records maintained off-site in storage and on-site at the program(s).

Primary responsibilities:

  • Manage medical records maintained off-site in storage, requesting medical records as necessary.

  • Timely respond to requests for release of medical information while protecting the client's private health information.

  • Collect data and complete statistical reports related to Health Information Management System (HIMS) functions according to department procedures and regulatory guidelines.

  • Assume responsibility for training and continuing education requirements as dictated by the facility, department, and professional standard.

  • Perform HIMS related work as needed and required so necessary functions are completed efficiently and effectively in the HIMS Department, serve on committees and complete projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with various software including Electronic Health Record Systems.

  • Experience with medical terminology.

  • Knowledge of hospital systems and workflow.

  • Knowledge and experience with quality improvement or patient safety.

  • Knowledge of HIPAA Privacy Rule.
