This Temporary appointment can be concluded prior to the stated temporary appointment end date, normally with a two-week notice period. Continuation of this temporary appointment is contingent upon grant funding.

Anticipated Hiring Range

$5,548.00 - $5,888.00 per month ($66,576.00 - $70,656.00 annually)

Salary is commensurate with experience.

Position Summary

Research Technician III compiles and interprets statistical data in the investigation of public health issues; technical responsibilities consist of the preparation of detailed plans for study, the preparation of detailed reports on phases of major studies. The Research Tech will work under the supervision of the Principal Investigator to assist with the direct day-to-day study activities ensuring the successful implementation of research across all phases including but not limited to supervising recruitment, data collection and data management, and coordinating activities across studies to ensure the studies run smoothly and in a timely fashion. The incumbent recommends, devises and applies procedures for proposed studies; develops and works with the Principal Investigator and other technical staff on the programming and machine processing of data; analyzes quantitative and qualitative statistical data and prepares interpretative reports and graphic presentation of research material; supervises and assists other technical research staff; initiates or recommends new studies or investigations, additional uses of existing data, modifications of procedures; represents the research staff at meetings and conferences to present research findings, programs and research objectives. The research technician will work with and supervise members of the research team to ensure study protocols are followed and materials are produced with the highest scientific standards, and in a timely manner, including but not limited to tracking planned research activities across study sites and institutions. The research technician will play key roles in building and maintaining systems across the study components not only including literature reviews but also data collection, and dissemination of study findings such as the development of abstracts, research presentations for national conferences, and the preparation of findings to be disseminated across diverse audiences. Supervisory responsibilities include the direction of small research staff and students engaged in the compilation and analysis of data.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledges and Abilities:

Thorough knowledge of research techniques, including the planning of studies and investigations, the determining of variables and the developing of reference materials; thorough knowledge of research reporting techniques; general knowledge of machine tabulation techniques and the programming of data; thorough knowledge of the techniques and treatment of data such as simple correlation methods, trend analysis, frequency distribution analysis, sampling techniques, hypothesis testing and methods of interval estimation; familiarity with the principles of personnel management and effective supervision and ability to direct the work of others.

Ability to reason logically and capacity for independent and creative thinking on research problems; ability to develop techniques for handling a large variety of detailed data and ability to analyze these data; ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships; strong ability to speak and write effectively; ability to analyze situations accurately and to adopt an effective course of action; excellent organizational abilities; ability to embrace ambiguity, flexibility and handle complexity; ability to work independently within fast paced environments; interpersonal ambassadorship skills and effective collaborative work across settings and organizations; knowledge of research ethnics and the protection of human subjects; open to innovation and challenge; ability to embrace juggling competing priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Masters-level training in quantitative sciences, including public health, social epidemiology, economics, biostatistics or related field.

• Personal effectiveness and credibility as demonstrated by interpersonal and professional confidence.
• Comfortable working with people of different backgrounds and across multiple institutions.
• A desire for engaging in scientific writing and reporting.
• Masters Degree in the Social Sciences, public health or related field including economics. Three years of research experience.
