Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Platform Engineer to lead the maintenance, optimization, and scaling of our enterprise cloud data infrastructure. In this role, you will focus on driving proactive system improvements, managing relational database platforms, and championing cloud cost optimization and FinOps best practices across our data ecosystem.
This is a hands-on technical role requiring deep expertise in AWS data services, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), and database administration. You will collaborate closely with data engineers, analysts, and scientists to ensure platform reliability, design robust monitoring solutions, and automate operational workflows. If you excel at building scalable cloud architectures and optimizing database performance, we want to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure & Database Administration
• Cloud Architecture: Lead the maintenance, scaling, and optimization of AWS data infrastructure, focusing on high availability and reliability.
• Database Management: Own relational database platforms (specifically Aurora PostgreSQL and MySQL), executing version upgrades, rehydrations, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
• Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Implement and maintain automated, repeatable cloud deployments using Terraform.
Data Services & Operational Efficiency
• Data Pipelines & Migration: Configure and manage core AWS data services, including AWS Database Migration Service (DMS) and AWS Glue.
• Automation & Scripting: Develop custom automation scripts and operational tools using shell scripting and Python to streamline routine tasks.
• Observability & Monitoring: Design and implement comprehensive monitoring, logging, and alerting systems to ensure peak platform health.
FinOps & Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Cost Optimization: Spearhead cloud cost management initiatives and implement industry FinOps best practices to optimize platform expenditure.
• Internal Enablement: Partner with data engineering, analytics, and science teams to gather requirements, deliver platform support, and mentor junior team members.
• Reliability Operations: Participate in on-call rotation schedules to triage and resolve critical platform incidents, while documenting architecture and operational procedures.
Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
• Experience Baseline: 5+ years of progressive professional experience managing enterprise AWS cloud infrastructure with a heavy emphasis on data services and database operations.
• Technical Mastery:
oStrong, hands-on experience administering relational databases (Aurora PostgreSQL, MySQL) including deep performance tuning.
oProven production experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
oExpertise in core AWS data tools: DMS, Glue, RDS/Aurora.
oSolid proficiency with Linux/Unix environments and shell scripting.
oDemonstrated experience implementing cloud cost management and FinOps frameworks.
• Core Competencies: Understanding of cloud network security principles, observability tooling, and modern reliability practices; excellent documentation and mentorship skills.
Preferred Attributes
• Relevant AWS Certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified Data Engineer).
• Experience with containerization platforms (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD deployment pipelines.
• Knowledge of database replication, disaster recovery planning, and data modeling principles.
