 Black Diamond Group's Tax department has a full-time position for Senior Tax Analyst - Canada.

This role is hybrid - in-office with 20% flexibility to work from home.

Reporting to the General Manager, Tax, this role will have the opportunity to be involved in a broad range of tax matters while being primarily responsible for preparing Canadian income and indirect tax returns. The Senior Tax Analyst will become a key member of the Company's tax function.   

The ideal candidate is a motivated self-starter with hands-on experience across both income and indirect taxes, who thrives in a dynamic environment, brings strong documentation and analytical skills (Big 4 background an asset), and is energized by ambiguity and evolving priorities rather than deterred by them.

Responsibilities 

 Income Tax Compliance:

  • Assist in the preparation of all annual Canadian income tax filings, including T2 corporate income tax returns, T5013 partnership information returns, and all other tax information forms such as T106s & T1134s
  • Preparation of tax elections, such T2057s, when applicable
  • Correspond with various Canadian tax authorities as required
  • Prepare tax working papers, tax analysis and gather information for all Canadian tax compliance
  • Maintain tax attribute calculations including adjusted cost bases, safe income and surplus pools


Indirect Tax Compliance:

  • Prepare monthly indirect tax returns for the Canadian business units
  • Work with internal stakeholders to properly set up sales tax accounts and rates within the ERP system to meet business needs
  • Sales tax research and assist with tax inquiries from internal stakeholders


Tax Accounting:

  • Prepare monthly account reconciliations for Canadian income and indirect tax accounts
  • Assist with the financial statement processes and the related deferred income tax provision, including assisting with calculating the deferred income tax provision for the Canadian business units


Other duties & responsibilities:

  • Assist with the preparation of responses to federal, and provincial income tax audits
  • Assist the tax function in implementing tax planning strategies
  • Preparation of form NR4 Statement of Amounts Paid to Non-Residents of Canada
  • Help the tax function manage the general tax inbox and the related tax requests that arise
  • Refine and improve data collection processes to support tax return filings
  • Liaise with third party tax advisors in relation to the above-mentioned duties and responsibilities
  • Other ad-hoc research and analysis as required and assigned by the General Manager, Tax, including assisting with drafting internal memos/communications supporting tax positions taken


 Qualifications

  • 5-years relevant tax-related experience
  • CPA designation is preferred.
  • Experience in SAP Business One, Oracle Netsuite and/or TaxPrep is considered an asset
  • Strong computer and data analysis skills including intermediate Excel skills (using pivot tables, basic charts/formula)
  • High attention to detail and strong commitment to ensure deadlines are met
  • Strong analytical skills and takes initiative to solve problems
  • Ability to work independently while supporting the larger finance and accounting team
  • Works well under pressure with multiple concurrent deadlines
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, capable of professional interaction with various levels of operations and external business partners
