What is a temporary cyber security triage analyst?

A Temporary Cyber Security Triage Analyst is a cybersecurity professional hired on a short-term basis to assess and prioritize security incidents. Their main role is to quickly evaluate alerts, determine the severity of threats, and escalate critical issues to the appropriate teams for further investigation or response. They help organizations maintain security operations during periods of high demand, staff shortages, or special projects. This position requires strong analytical skills, familiarity with security tools, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a temporary cyber security triage analyst?

To thrive as a Temporary Cyber Security Triage Analyst, you need foundational knowledge in information security, incident response, and threat analysis, often supported by a relevant degree or certifications like CompTIA Security+ or CISSP. Familiarity with security information and event management (SIEM) tools, ticketing systems, and basic scripting languages is typically required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication help analysts prioritize threats and collaborate with teams. These skills are crucial for quickly identifying, assessing, and escalating security incidents to protect organizational assets.

What types of incidents does a temporary cyber security triage analyst typically handle, and how does the triage process work in a fast-paced environment?

As a Temporary Cyber Security Triage Analyst, you will often be the first point of contact for security alerts, handling incidents such as phishing attempts, malware infections, unauthorized access, and suspicious network activity. The triage process involves quickly assessing the severity and potential impact of each alert, prioritizing cases based on risk, and escalating critical issues to senior analysts or other security teams. You'll collaborate closely with IT, security operations, and incident response teams to ensure timely containment and resolution. Working under tight deadlines and managing multiple cases simultaneously is common, so strong organizational and communication skills are key to success in this role.

Job description

WHO WE ARE:
Headquartered in Southern California, Skechers—the Comfort Technology Company®—has spent over 30 years helping men, women, and kids everywhere look and feel good. Comfort innovation is at the core of everything we do, driving the development of stylish, high-quality products at a great value. From our diverse footwear collections to our expanding range of apparel and accessories, Skechers is a complete lifestyle brand.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
A Cybersecurity Analyst at Skechers is a key member of our global cybersecurity team. This role places you at the front lines of our cyber defense practice, where you will lead complex investigations, liaison with senior security resources, and serve as a primary point of contact for our global security partners. While incident handling and response are central to the role, our Cybersecurity Analysts also provide meaningful input into our threat intelligence practice and support proactive security work, including threat hunting and vulnerability management, to strengthen the organization’s overall security posture.
This is an excellent opportunity for an analyst who has built a solid foundation in Tier 1 alert triage and is ready to take ownership of higher-complexity work with greater independence. The role is especially well suited for someone who wants to join an agile cybersecurity team that values innovation and a continuous improvement mindset. The candidate who will find the most success and fulfillment brings a genuine interest and passion for cybersecurity, a love for learning, a positive attitude, and a desire to roll up their sleeves and dive into the deep end.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

· Proactively monitor tools, feeds, and dashboards for security alerts.

· Identify and triage alerts from internal systems and respond to alerts from managed SOC providers.

· Follow established process while responding to incidents and preparing reports.

· Lead complex, multi-system security investigations from initial signal through containment recommendations, remediation, and written findings.

· Correlate telemetry across endpoint, identity provider, email, SaaS, cloud, network, and other data to determine what happened, what was affected, and what action is required.

· Use AI/LLM assistants for triage, enrichment, log summarization, timeline development, and detection drafting while validating outputs against source evidence and recognizing hallucinated or incomplete analysis.

· Identify opportunities to improve SOC processes, detections, and workflows, including recommending where AI, automation, or playbook enhancements could reduce manual effort, improve consistency, or accelerate response.

· Provide technical guidance and assistance to other team members, fostering knowledge sharing and skill development within the team.

· Provide input to and report on metrics for alerts, incidents, responses, and operations.

· Assess managed SOC escalations for quality, urgency, and completeness; provide feedback that improves escalation criteria and alert fidelity.

· Work closely with multiple groups and business units globally to provide guidance and support.

· Work closely with internal stakeholders and managed security partners to respond to alerts and incidents and escalate as necessary.

· Stay current with the evolving threat landscape, defensive capabilities, and relevant security tools and techniques, including AI-assisted analysis, automation, and emerging attacker tradecraft.

· Conduct threat hunts leveraging threat intelligence to proactively identify, investigate, and remediate emerging security threats across the organization.

· Participate in purple team exercises, combining offensive and defensive tactics to strengthen the organization's security posture, enhance threat detection and improve incident response capabilities.

· Analyze vulnerabilities and exposure signals in context of exploitability, asset criticality, compensating controls, and observed threat activity to help prioritize remediation.

· Collaborate closely with the Security Engineering team to enhance automations and workflows, develop new detection capabilities, and identify areas for improvement in security processes and tools.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

· Hands-on cybersecurity operations, incident response, threat hunting, vulnerability management, or closely related cybersecurity experience.

· Understanding of general enterprise network and system components and their roles (databases, webservers, app servers).

· Familiarity with network and application protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP, TLS, SSH, DNS, etc.).

· Experience working with servers or workstations running Windows, Linux, or OS X.

· Experience investigating, securing, or supporting cloud systems, platforms, and resources.

· Experience with security tools like EDR, SIEM, etc.

· Understanding of cybersecurity concepts and emerging threats.

· Experience in phishing and malware analysis.

· Strong documentation habits with excellent written and oral communication skills.

· Strong work ethic with attention to detail.

· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

· Ability to work independently on complex threat analysis and alert triage while maintaining accuracy and efficiency.

· Ability to excel in a fast paced and rapidly changing environment.

REQUIREMENTS:

· Strong working knowledge of cybersecurity operations, incident response, and the technologies commonly used to investigate and contain security events.

· 2+ years of experience working hands on in a cybersecurity focused role preferred.

· GIAC, (ISC)2, or other relevant security certifications a plus.

The pay range for this position is $90,000 - $120,000/yr USD.
