Department
The University Outreach department within the Division of Student Affairs serves prospective and incoming students, and any other interested parties in the information seeking and application process, as it relates to the California State University system and Cal State Fullerton specifically. Our office provides campus tours, informational workshops, new and transfer student orientations, and general information. We seek an exceptional individual to join our team as the Orientation Coordinator (Student Services Professional II). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to inclusivity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the general direction of the Director of Outreach, Recruitment, and Orientation, the Orientation Coordinator develops and implements the logistics, operations, and coordination for department-wide programs (inclusive, but not limited to New Student Orientation, Parent and Supporter Orientation, and Welcome Week). The Orientation Coordinator assists with the Orientation Leader training process and student staff supervision for the department. In collaboration with the Associate Director, Assistant Director, Senior Orientation Coordinator, and Parent and Student Orientation Coordinator, the Orientation Coordinator supports the planning and execution of successful student onboarding experiences. This includes the strategic delivery of information, management of online programs, organization of marketing and communication materials, planning of events and student activities, managing registration and communication systems, and overall working to foster student belonging and engagement. Collaborates with faculty and staff to establish meaningful campus and community involvement in building a strong and viable program and supports students and the campus in providing an inclusive and accepting campus environment. Supports outreach and yield events and other department-wide programs (inclusive but not limited to the Tuffy the Titan mascot program, Experience CSUF: Become a Titan, Fall in Love with Cal State Fullerton). Other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or the equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public administration, business administration or a job-related field and two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or a related field. A master's degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience. Additional specialized and relevant experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
General knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational management, research, and interview techniques. Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations, obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews, and advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters. Ability to reason logically and use initiative in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements. Ability to plan, develop, coordinate, supervise, and organize programs and activities. Ability to interact with a diverse student population, faculty, staff, and the public. Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to acquire knowledge of campus procedures, activities, and of the overall organization.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree from an accredited college or university is highly preferred. A minimum of one year of relevant experience as a graduate assistant or post-bachelors experience with first year experience / transition / orientation program development and supervising or advising student staff. One-year post-master's university first year experience and/or transition experience preferred. An understanding of student development and transition theory. Experience with program planning and outcomes assessment and analysis. Experience with budget and resource allocation is preferred. Strong experience in new student orientation and transition programs. Knowledge of working at a public institution. Ability to establish effective working relationships with staff, students, faculty, supporters, and guests. Ability to translate student development, leadership theory, and research into practice. Ability to plan and implement programs linked to student learning outcomes. Experience maintaining and tracking administrative files. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse student and staff population. Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Event planning skills including designing, marketing, implementing, and assessing impact. Ability to work autonomously and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Ability to analyze situations and develop solutions.
License/Certifications
A valid California driver's license.
