Job description

Formulation Scientist – Skin Care | R&D

We are seeking an experienced Formulation Scientist – Skin Care to join our Research & Development team. This position is responsible for developing new cosmetic and skin care formulations, improving existing products, evaluating raw materials, conducting laboratory testing, and supporting pilot and production batches.

The ideal candidate will have a strong scientific background with hands-on cosmetic or skin care formulation experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop new skin care and cosmetic formulations
  • Improve and reformulate existing products
  • Perform laboratory blending, mixing, homogenization, and compounding
  • Conduct short-term product stability evaluations
  • Develop manufacturing instructions for new formulations
  • Oversee pilot manufacturing batches of laboratory formulas
  • Monitor new and existing product production batches
  • Research and evaluate new raw materials and ingredients
  • Identify secondary or replacement sources for raw materials
  • Assist in developing testing specifications for raw materials, process intermediates, and finished products
  • Support development and validation of new or improved manufacturing processes
  • Evaluate product and material uniformity
  • Maintain detailed laboratory and research records in accordance with applicable regulations
  • Analyze and interpret laboratory results
  • Prepare technical reports and communicate findings to management
  • Evaluate packaging and ingredients as part of vendor qualification
  • Stay current on cosmetic, skin care, ingredient, and formulation industry trends

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline
  • 2+ years of related cosmetic formulation experience
  • Hands-on experience developing or improving cosmetic or skin care products
  • Thorough knowledge of common compounding techniques and cosmetic ingredients
  • Experience with laboratory testing, product development, and stability evaluations
  • Ability to analyze scientific and technical data
  • Strong laboratory documentation and report-writing skills
  • Ability to read and interpret scientific literature, technical journals, and technical documentation
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Knowledge of spreadsheet and word-processing software
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with R&D, production, quality, and management teams

Physical & Work Environment

  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 lbs.
  • Laboratory environment may include exposure to chemicals, fumes, heat sources, and moving equipment
  • Position may require occasional travel
