Registered Nurse (RN) - Correctional Healthcare

Location: Houston, TX

Pay Rate: Starting at $40.00/hour

Schedule: 5x8-hour shifts (alternating weekends)

- Mid Shift: 12:45 PM - 9:15 PM

- Night Shift: 10:45 PM - 7:15 AM

Dean's Professional Services is seeking a skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) to support insulin services within a correctional healthcare setting in Houston, TX. This temp-to-hire opportunity offers the chance to make a meaningful impact while working in a structured, fast-paced clinical environment focused on patient safety and continuity of care.

In this role, you will play a vital part in medication administration, chronic disease management, and supporting providers in delivering quality care to an underserved population.

Responsibilities

- Administer insulin and other medications in accordance with physician orders and established protocols

- Collaborate with providers and interdisciplinary teams to ensure continuity of care

- Monitor and document vital signs, patient conditions, and treatment responses

- Perform wound care, including dressing changes and infection prevention measures

- Assist with clinical procedures and patient treatments as needed

- Collect specimens for diagnostic testing and ensure proper handling

- Identify and report changes in patient condition promptly

- Provide patient education and support care planning initiatives

- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with facility and state guidelines

Qualifications

- Active Texas Registered Nurse (RN) license (required)

- Current CPR/BLS certification through the American Heart Association (required)

- Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience (required)

- Triage experience required

- Med-Surg, ER, IMU, or ICU experience preferred

- SAMA training required (or willingness to obtain)

- Valid Texas Driver's License (required)

- Previous correctional or institutional healthcare experience preferred

- Ability to meet facility background clearance requirements
