Job Title: Engineering Lab TechnicianJob DescriptionWe are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to support our geotechnical and construction materials testing operations. This position involves performing laboratory testing on soil, aggregate, asphalt, and concrete samples in accordance with industry standards and project specifications. The role requires collaboration with the Laboratory Supervisor, field technicians, engineers, and project teams to ensure accurate and timely testing results.
Responsibilities- Perform laboratory testing on soil, concrete, aggregate, and asphalt materials.
- Conduct tests such as moisture content, sieve analysis, and density.
- Prepare and test concrete cylinders and other construction material samples.
- Accurately document test results and maintain laboratory records.
- Follow industry and project-specific testing standards.
- Maintain, calibrate, and clean laboratory equipment.
- Assist with sample logging, tracking, storage, and disposal.
- Travel to job sites to collect soil, concrete, aggregate, and asphalt samples as needed.
- Safely operate company-provided vehicles and field testing equipment.
- Communicate with contractors, project managers, and engineers regarding sample collection activities.
- Maintain accurate field documentation and chain-of-custody records.
- Support field testing personnel during peak workloads.
Essential Skills- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Basic computer skills and experience with data entry.
Additional Skills & Qualifications- Previous experience in construction materials testing, geotechnical, environmental, or laboratory settings.
- Experience performing soil classification or concrete testing.
- Associate degree or coursework in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Geology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- ACI, NICET, DOT, or other industry certifications.
Work EnvironmentThe position is primarily based in a laboratory environment with occasional travel to field sites to collect samples. A company vehicle and testing equipment are provided for field assignments. The role requires working both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Topeka, KS.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
