Job Description

This role focuses on building and fully assembling low-voltage control panels and automated spray systems for a diverse range of customers. You will read and interpret blueprints and electrical schematics, perform complete panel assembly from start to finish, and use hand and power tools for drilling, tapping, and wiring. The work includes both standard panel configurations and custom projects, offering variety from week to week and requiring strong technical skills and solid organization. Some units are PLC-driven and others are not, and you will work with panels that range from a few dozen wires to several hundred, ensuring accurate wiring and reliable operation.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and work orders to identify required materials and steps for panel assembly.
  • Gather and organize materials, components, and hardware needed to build control panels and automated spray systems.
  • Build panels from start to completion, including mounting components, routing wiring, and making all electrical connections and junctions.
  • Use hand and power tools for electrical wiring tasks, including drilling, tapping, and fastening components to panels.
  • Wire panels that may contain between 20–30 conductors up to several hundred wires, ensuring neat layout, proper labeling, and correct terminations.
  • Wire PLCs, limit switches, motor controls, sensors, and other control components according to schematics and design specifications.
  • Work with low-voltage control panels supplied by high-voltage power that is converted to DC, following proper safety and wiring practices.
  • Pull job information from the computer system, print diagrams and schematics, and generate wire tags and terminal marker tags for each project.
  • Maintain organized inventory and supplies within the panel shop, including tracking materials and ensuring adequate stock levels.
  • Use basic computer skills and Microsoft products to access job documentation, update information, and support shop organization.
  • Follow established quality standards and procedures to ensure panels meet performance and safety requirements.
  • Collaborate with team members and other departments as needed to resolve issues, clarify specifications, and meet project deadlines.
  • Adapt to a mix of standard and custom panel builds, managing changing priorities and varying project requirements from week to week.

Essential Skills

  • At least 5 years of experience working as a Panel Builder or in a closely related panel wiring and assembly role.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and wiring diagrams.
  • Proven experience wiring control panels from start to finish, including mounting components, routing wires, and completing terminations.
  • Hands-on proficiency with hand and power tools used for panel building, including drills, taps, and air guns.
  • Demonstrated skill in wiring PLCs, limit switches, motor controls, sensors, and other control components.
  • Experience working with low-voltage control panels supplied from high-voltage sources converted to DC.
  • Solid organizational skills to manage multiple jobs, materials, and documentation in a busy shop environment.
  • Basic computer literacy, including the ability to access jobs, print diagrams, and generate wire and terminal tags using Microsoft products.
  • Ability to work accurately with panels containing anywhere from 20–30 wires up to several hundred wires, maintaining quality and consistency.
  • High School Diploma or technical school education preferred, or equivalent practical experience in electrical panel building.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with packaging or assembly equipment and machine building or machine assembly.
  • working with motors, including 3-phase motors, and related motor control wiring.
  • Knowledge of sensors, pneumatics, and their integration into automated equipment and control panels.
  • Familiarity with PLCs and Allen-Bradley platforms in industrial control applications.
  • Experience installing and routing conduit, wiring harnesses, and control wiring in a clean, organized manner.
  • Understanding of wiring schematics, control panel layouts, and circuit board connections.
  • Comfort working with control panels and circuit boards in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Technical school training in electrical, electronics, or industrial automation is a plus but not required.
