Job description

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Duties include but are not limited to:
1. Performs all duties of a Radiation Protection Helper.
2. Operates Radiation Protection equipment and instrumentation and conducts tests or checks in accordance with approved Radiation Protection procedures, or as directed.
3. Performs assigned radiation and contamination surveys, records results and reports those exceeding administrative limits, in accordance with station procedures.
4. Evaluates survey results and, based on these, posts new or updates existing status signs to reflect current radiation, contamination or airborne levels.
5. Monitors Radiation Protection equipment, takes appropriate action and reports unusual/abnormal conditions. Replaces charts on Radiation Protection instruments and records test results.
6. Records required data in appropriate Radiation Protection logs and log sheets.
7. Performs equipment and system checking or inspection and documents required information as assigned. Performs repairs as required in accordance with Radiation Protection procedures.
8. Observes all Radiation Protection regulations including proper use of anti-contamination clothing and equipment. Reports to supervision any observed violation of station procedures, applicable federal Regulations or Radiation Protection requirements and takes action as necessary.
9. Collects air, water, bioassay samples; records information necessary to complete evaluation and analyses samples as directed.
10. Assists employees in the proper use of monitoring equipment and other protective clothing and equipment.
11. Calculates air and water concentrations, removable and fixed contamination levels from collected data.
12. Performs decontamination of personnel, equipment or facilities as necessary or assigned.
13. Provides Radiation Protection coverage at jobs or locations, as assigned, and reports to proper authority any unusual/abnormal changes in work conditions stopping work as necessary.
14. Distributes and collects personnel monitoring devices and records required information, as assigned.
15. Maintains thorough knowledge of appropriate plans and procedures. Radiological Health and Safety Programs, Industrial Safety Programs, applicable regulations and limits, radiation and contamination instrument detection principles and operation, Plant Controlled Access Areas, Security Procedures and Emergency Procedures.
16. Complies with station procedures and policy, implementing the effective Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Regulatory Guides, National standards and subsequent changes applicable to the work performed.
17. Participates in and successfully completes all aspects of training and requalification programs in part consisting of written and oral examinations, lectures, on-the-job training and self-study.
18. Performs such other related duties as assigned or as necessary.
MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Successful completion of high school level mathematics and physics or equivalent.
3. Satisfactory physical and mental condition as evidenced by successfully passing company-provided examinations.
4. Ability to satisfactorily complete Radiation Protection technician training as evidenced by success completion of Junior Radiation Protection Technician exam.
5. Ability to make decisions requiring judgment, choice of action, etc., pertaining to Radiation Protection Technician work.
6. Valid Pennsylvania Driver's License.
