Job description

Join a diverse and dynamic team that makes and delivers the most valuable services in the world: electricity and natural gas.  At Consumers Energy, our customers are at the heart of everything we do.  Our employees work around the clock to provide service to our customers in honor of our history and to fulfill our promise to Michigan - Count on Us!  Consumers Energy, the principal subsidiary of CMS Energy and headquartered in Jackson, Michigan, provides natural gas and electricity to nearly 6.8 million of Michigan's 10 million residents in all 68 Lower Peninsula counties.

LOCATION & HOURS
There are currently three (3) positions available, with opportunities on both 2nd and 3rd shifts. This position is onsite at the Jackson Service Center, located in Jackson, MI. These are union positions with the requirement to work a minimum of 40 hours per week in a 24/7 operation.
AUTOMOTIVE & EQUIPMENT MECHANIC A
Duties: Under directive supervision, performs mechanical work on vehicles and equipment at the grade indicated by such duties as:
1. Inspecting, diagnosing, adjusting, and repairing such systems as:

  • Hydraulic systems
  • Air conditioning systems
  • Brake systems
  • Fuel and emission systems
  • Drivetrain systems
  • Starting systems
  • Charging systems
  • Electrical systems
  • Chassis systems
  • Power plant/engine
  • Alternative fuel systems

2. Diagnosing vehicle systems, including the use of all types of diagnostic equipment and tools.
3. Making minor repairs to booms, buckets, and vehicle equipment bodies.
4. Performing routine inspections of manlifts and aerial devices.
5. Performing all material lift inspections.
6. Performing SMAW (Stick) and GMAW (MIG) non-structural welding.
7. Performing acetylene cutting, heating, and brazing.
8. Accessing and using fleet operating systems and service information platforms.
9. Performing other similar or related work.

Qualifications:
Must have all the qualifications of an Automotive & Equipment Service Worker and, in addition:
1. Must have at least one (1) year of experience as such, or the equivalent; and
2. Must meet the minimum requirements of the Automotive & Equipment Mechanic assessment.
