What is a temporary computer science?

Temporary computer science jobs are short-term positions in the field of computer science, often filled to meet project-based needs, seasonal workloads, or to cover for permanent staff on leave. These roles can include positions such as software developers, IT support specialists, data analysts, or research assistants working on fixed-term contracts. Temporary jobs provide valuable experience, networking opportunities, and a chance to build technical skills, which can be beneficial for students, recent graduates, or professionals seeking flexibility.

What do temporary computer science professionals do?

Temporary computer science professionals are often brought on to support ongoing projects with tight deadlines, such as software testing, bug fixing, data migration, or developing specific features. They may also assist with code reviews, documentation, or updating legacy systems. These tasks are crucial for keeping project timelines on track and ensuring the quality of deliverables. Temporary team members typically work closely with permanent staff, participating in team meetings and collaborating through agile methodologies to achieve shared objectives.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a temporary computer science professional?

To thrive as a Temporary Computer Science professional, you need a solid understanding of programming languages, algorithms, and software development principles, often demonstrated through a relevant degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with version control systems (like Git), integrated development environments (IDEs), and possibly certifications such as CompTIA or AWS can be highly beneficial. Strong problem-solving skills, adaptability, and effective communication help you integrate quickly and contribute to diverse teams or short-term projects. These skills ensure you can deliver quality results efficiently, adapt to new environments, and support organizational technology needs on a temporary basis.

Job description

Job Title: Senior Release Train Engineer (Enterprise Agile Delivery)
Role Overview
We are seeking a seasoned Senior Release Train Engineer (RTE) to orchestrate the flow of value across a high-performing, cross-functional Agile Release Train (ART) operating within a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe). In this role, you will serve as the program-level facilitator and coach, ensuring synchronization, systemic predictability, and alignment to shared strategic objectives. You will own the design and execution of the ART's cadence events-including PI Planning, ART Syncs, System Demos, and Inspect & Adapt workshops-while leveraging objective flow metrics to optimize delivery and eliminate operational friction.
Key Responsibilities
ART Cadence Leadership & Facilitation
Event Architecture: Plan, prepare, and facilitate critical SAFe events for the ART: PI Planning (including pre- and post-PI readiness), Scrum of Scrums, PO Sync, System Demos, and Inspect & Adapt workshops.
Content Readiness: Partner closely with Product Management and System Architecture to ensure content, technical roadmaps, architectural runway, and capacity allocations are aligned ahead of PI Planning.
Scope Realignment: Facilitate scope alignment, tradeoffs, and cross-team feature integration during PI execution to protect commitments.
Flow, Risk & Dependency Management
Program Transparency: Maintain highly visible, transparent views of the Program Board, cross-team dependencies, and systemic impediments.
Risk Mitigation: Drive the ROAM (Resolved, Owned, Accepted, Mitigated) risk management framework at the program level; escalate and resolve bottlenecks quickly to maintain delivery velocity.
Metrics & Reporting: Establish and monitor program dashboards tracking PI Predictability, planned vs. achieved Business Value, and flow signals to provide clear, data-backed status reporting to Business Owners and stakeholders.
Enterprise Coaching & Continuous Improvement
Agile Mentorship: Act as a program-level coach to mentor Scrum Masters, Team Coaches, and Product Owners on Lean-Agile practices, event design, and self-management.
Relentless Improvement: Steward the Inspect & Adapt problem-solving workshop, translating operational insights into a visible improvement backlog and verifying its systemic impact across subsequent increments.
Culture Champion: Cultivate an environment of psychological safety, healthy conflict resolution, and continuous optimization across teams of teams.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education: Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
Certifications (Mandatory):
oCurrent SAFe certification relevant to the program level (e.g., SAFe RTE, SAFe Program Consultant (SPC), SSM/SASM, or Leading SAFe).
Experience:
oMinimum 5 years of experience in Agile delivery, with at least 2+ years explicitly facilitating at the program level (RTE, Program Scrum Master, or equivalent).
oProven track record of leading large-scale PI Planning sessions and managing complex, multi-team dependencies.
Technical & Tooling Mastery:
oHigh proficiency with enterprise Agile management tools (Jira Align or Azure DevOps) for tracking dependencies, visualizing Program Boards, and generating metrics.
oHands-on experience with continuous improvement methodologies, root-cause analysis, and data visualization.
Logistics: Flexibility to support global cadence events across varying time zones; willingness for occasional travel to support in-person PI Planning workshops.
