About the Role
Laurel Springs School is seeking a passionate and student-centered Computer Science Teacher to support our Upper School program for the 2026-2027 academic year. This is a fully remote teaching position designed for an educator who thrives in a virtual learning environment and is committed to preparing high school students for advanced study in computer science and emerging technologies. The teacher will support students in grades 9-12 through a combination of asynchronous instruction and live, synchronous interactions, providing personalized guidance, feedback, and academic support.
This role requires strong communication skills, the ability to build meaningful relationships with students and families, and a deep understanding of computer science instruction. Teachers at Laurel Springs support a roster of students in primarily asynchronous courses while providing live instruction, academic coaching, and individualized support as needed. This role is highly collaborative, working closely with the Math Academic Department Chair, cross-functional school teams, and student support staff, and includes involvement in curriculum and program development.
What You'll Do
  • Deliver high-quality online instruction through a combination of asynchronous coursework and live virtual teaching
  • Teach high school computer science courses, including AP Computer Science A, AP Computer Science Principles, and introductory AI/Machine Learning coursework
  • Engage students in a structured, interactive, and supportive virtual classroom environment
  • Teach coding and programming concepts across multiple languages, including Python and Java
  • Support instruction in areas such as game design, web design, 3D modeling, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies
  • Foster computational thinking, digital citizenship, ethical AI awareness, and real-world problem-solving through project-based learning
  • Monitor student progress and provide timely, personalized, and constructive feedback on assignments
  • Proactively identify learning gaps and implement targeted interventions to support student mastery and course completion
  • Communicate regularly with students, parents, and school staff via email, phone, and video conferencing
  • Hold virtual office hours, one-on-one student meetings, and parent conferences
  • Provide academic coaching, encouragement, and individualized support to a roster of students
  • Contribute to curriculum development, course updates, and program enhancements
  • Sponsor or support a computer science-related club, workshop, or honor society
  • Participate in school-wide meetings, professional development, and community events
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance and engagement
  • Uphold confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions

What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Education, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred
  • Active teaching certification with authorization to teach 6-12 computer science, including AP Computer Science courses
  • Experience teaching high school computer science, including AP-level coursework
  • Experience with online teaching, virtual instruction, or educational technology strongly preferred
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and Java
  • Experience teaching or familiarity with AI/Machine Learning concepts and emerging technologies
  • Strong understanding of computational thinking, digital citizenship, and ethical technology use
  • Ability to make complex technical concepts accessible and engaging for high school learners
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with students and families
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and student needs
  • Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment while collaborating with a distributed team
  • Passion for education and commitment to student-centered learning

Work Environment and Schedule
  • Fully remote position within the United States
  • Full-time, 12-month role
  • Availability required during standard business hours (Eastern Time)
  • Participation in live, synchronous sessions, student appointments, and school events
  • Occasional evening availability may be required
  • Periodic travel for in-person events, training, or team gatherings

Technology Requirements
  • Reliable, high-speed internet connection
  • Dedicated home workspace suitable for virtual instruction and meetings
  • Experience with learning management systems, video conferencing platforms, and digital tools preferred
