Under the direction of the Fresno Legal Office Claims Manager (Supervisor I) and/or the Deputy Chief Counsel in the Fresno Legal Office, the Claims Analyst II (commonly known as Claims Officer or District Claims Officer) the incumbent is responsible for directing and coordinating the review and processing of statewide damage claims filed with the Department of General Services (DGS). The incumbent performs a variety of analytical assignments and provides legal support services to Attorneys defending the Department in tort liability claims and lawsuits. The Claims Officer also evaluates and processes tort claims in the amount of $12,500 or less pursuant to Government Code section 937.5 and represents the Department in Small Claims Court. The Claims Officer may monitor the work flow in the unit and make assignments and provide guidance and assistance to other staff in the unit.

Working Conditions
Position located at 1352 W Olive Ave Fresno, Fresno County.
Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment.
While at their base of operation, employees will work in a climate-controlled office under artificial light. However, due to periodic problems with the heating and air conditioning, the building temperature may fluctuate. Employees will be required to some extent travel and work outdoors and may be exposed to traffic, dirt, noise, uneven terrain, and/or deal with extreme heat or cold weather.
This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans's evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee's designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
