BA, BS, or MS or Chemistry; four-year Science degree also considered;
Bachelor of Science or Master of Science in Chemistry, Biology, Engineering or related field
Minimum 0-1 years of industry experience (Bachelor degree)
Minimum 0-1 years of industry experience (Master degree)
Responsibilities:
I. Job purpose
The role of the Contractor Chemist is to support the R&D formulators to achieve their goals. Primarily the contractor is responsible for learning company processes and chemical hygene guidelines, proper batching techniques, record keeping, cleaning, organization and disposal processes. The contractor will be responsible for requesting standard tests and reviews (stability, salon, PET). The contractor will work with direction from the formulators and managers.
II. Main tasks & responsibilities
• Read and understand all department SOP (stadard operating procedure) documents. Follow all PPE (personal protective equipment) guidelines.
• Formulate/ batch hair related products under supervision of Senior Chemist or Manager.
• Document within laboratory notebook and formulation software every batch made with details of reason for the batch, batching notes, batch specification results and other test results as applicable.
• Conduct stability as required by department policy, i.e., track stability, update results charts and summarize data for review at each test period.
• Co-ordinate/ submit Salon Testing; Conduct laboratory efficacy tests and write reports detailing experiments, and analysis and summary of results.
• Co-ordinate/ submit Microbiological and any analytical testing needed
• Communicate effectively and routinely with supervisor and, as needed, colleagues on all projects.
• Communicate formulation stability and efficacy results and issues promptly and thoroughly.
• Gain a working knowledge of laboratory equipment utilized to evaluate the physical and performance attributes of various product types.
• Assist in the maintenance of laboratory raw materials, glassware, supplies and waste removal.
• Maintain an organized, clean and tidy laboratory and cubicle workspace. Handle other projects and duties as assigned.
• If the role requires: Interact with raw material vendors and other industry representatives to further expand on the understanding of their products,
• If the role requires: Interact with departments and colleagues within and outside of R&D, including, but not limited to, Marketing, Manufacturing, QA and Salon Services. Seek out and read industry literature as it relates to new assignments and technologies.
