What is temporary BCBA supervision?

Temporary BCBA supervision refers to a short-term arrangement where a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) provides required supervision to individuals who are pursuing BCBA certification or need ongoing supervision for maintenance. This supervision typically involves oversight of the candidate’s work, providing feedback, and ensuring ethical and effective practice in applied behavior analysis. The temporary nature of this supervision means it is not a permanent or long-term supervisory relationship but is designed to meet immediate certification or employer requirements.

Job description

Where you'll be working:

Location(s): Supporting variety of clinics throughout the assigned Illinois region

Setting: Hybrid outpatient pediatric clinic role with remote clinical responsibilities and some travel between assigned locations

Population Served: Children 2 - 18

Years in Operation: Founded in 1988

What You’ll Actually Be Doing (aka no surprises later):

  • Step in as the assigned BCBA for clinics experiencing temporary BCBA vacancies, ensuring clients and RBTs continue receiving consistent clinical supervision and support.
  • Develop, oversee, and regularly update individualized treatment programs and behavior intervention plans using evidence-based ABA and Natural Environment Teaching principles.
  • Analyze client data, evaluate treatment effectiveness, and make timely clinical adjustments based on progress and outcomes.
  • Provide ongoing training, mentorship, and supervision to RBTs, team members, and future BCBAs completing fieldwork hours.
  • Complete parent meetings, clinical supervision, progress reports, evaluations, SOAP notes, and other required documentation.
  • Collaborate with speech, occupational therapy, education, and other multidisciplinary team members to support coordinated care.
  • Transition between clinics and caseloads as coverage needs change, helping maintain clinical stability until a permanent BCBA is hired.

Caseload & Support Transparency (because details matter):

  • Caseload size: Varies based on clinic coverage needs and temporary BCBA vacancies
  • Billable hour expectations: 30 billable hours a week
  • Clinical expectations:
  • Provide supervision for approximately 10%–20% of each client’s treatment hours.
  • Provide supervision for approximately 5%–10% of each RBT’s hours.
  • Review and update client programming every one to two weeks.
  • Supervise at least one student earning BCBA fieldwork hours when needed.
  • Support Structure:
  • Partner closely with Clinic ABA Directors and local clinic teams.
  • Receive support from multidisciplinary professionals, including speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, and educators.
  • Work within an established pediatric therapy organization with multiple Illinois clinics.
  • Provide temporary coverage rather than being permanently assigned to one clinic or caseload.

Compensation & Perks (real ones):

  • Bonus structure: Up to $12,000 annually
  • PTO: 10 days

  • Schedule flexibility / remote options: Remote schedule with at minimum two days in clinic a month
  • Additional perks:
  • Predominantly remote clinical role with limited required in-person days
  • Variety across clinics, teams, and client populations
  • Opportunity to support clinics during high-need periods
  • Multidisciplinary collaboration
  • Meaningful mentorship and leadership responsibilities
  • Ability to help maintain continuity of care while permanent clinical staffing is secured

If it’s listed here, it’s real.

Why This Is a Green-Flag Clinic

  • This is a unique opportunity for an experienced BCBA who enjoys variety, mentorship, and problem-solving. Rather than being permanently tied to one location, you’ll provide clinical stability when clinics need it most—supporting clients, RBTs, and families until a long-term BCBA is in place.
  • You’ll also have the flexibility of a primarily remote position while remaining connected to clinic teams through intentional in-person support.

You’d Be a Great Fit If You:

  • Have minimum 5 years of experience
  • Have significant experience supervising RBTs and developing future clinicians
  • Adapt quickly to new teams, caseloads, and clinical environments
  • Can provide strong clinical direction without needing constant oversight
  • Enjoy mentoring and training others
  • Communicate clearly and transparently
  • Are comfortable traveling within an assigned region
  • Care deeply about maintaining quality and continuity of care during staffing transitions
