What is a temporary assignment?

Temporary assignments are short-term job roles where individuals are hired for a specific period or project, often through staffing agencies. These roles can range from a few days to several months and are commonly used to cover employee absences, seasonal workloads, or special projects. Temporary assignments offer flexibility for both employers and workers and can sometimes lead to permanent positions. They are found in a variety of industries, including administration, healthcare, manufacturing, and more.

What are some common challenges faced during a temporary assignment, and how can I prepare for them?

Temporary assignments often require adapting quickly to new environments and workflows, which can be challenging if you're unfamiliar with the company's systems or culture. It's important to be proactive in learning organizational procedures and to communicate openly with your supervisor and colleagues. Building rapport quickly and asking clarifying questions can help you integrate into the team and perform effectively. Staying flexible and open to feedback will also ensure you make the most of your assignment and potentially open doors to future opportunities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a temporary assignment, and why are they important?

To thrive in a Temporary Assignment, you generally need adaptability, quick learning ability, and relevant experience or education for the specific task. Familiarity with common office software, industry-specific tools, or organizational systems is often required, depending on the assignment. Strong communication, reliability, and teamwork set standout temporary workers apart. These qualities enable you to quickly integrate, contribute effectively, and meet the immediate needs of the employer.

Job description

Step into an engaging role supporting students across all grade levels as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) or Occupational Therapist (OT) in a dynamic school-based setting. This opportunity offers a full-time contract beginning August 27, 2026, with an initial commitment of approximately 12 weeks to cover an FMLA maternity leave. While the district prefers a COTA, qualified Occupational Therapists are encouraged to apply. The position will provide therapy services to students from Pre-K through 12th grade in a district-wide capacity.

Key Qualifications:

  • Active Connecticut COTA license/certification (CT DPH License and NBCOT Exam passed) OR active Connecticut OT license
  • Previous school experience strongly preferred
  • Reliable transportation is essential for travel across multiple campuses
  • Comfortable working with diverse student populations and age groups
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with educational teams and supervisors
  • Flexibility and commitment to covering a leave assignment, with understanding that an extension is possible but not guaranteed

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver occupational therapy services to students in accordance with each treatment plan
  • Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and families to ensure students’ needs are met
  • Document and track progress in accordance with district and state requirements
  • Work under the supervision and guidance of an Occupational Therapist if serving as a COTA
  • Serve a caseload spanning from Pre-K to 12th grade students across the district

This assignment provides a unique chance to grow your school-based clinical skills, serve diverse learners, and develop relationships within an experienced interdisciplinary team. The initial contract is for the duration of the maternity leave, but there's strong potential for future extension.

If you are fully committed to accepting a temporary assignment that could become ongoing, and you have the skills and passion for making an impact in students’ lives, submit your application today. Virtual interviews offer a convenient, efficient start to the hiring process. Your next rewarding role awaits—apply now!

Compensation for this position ranges from $23.23 to $43.23. Eligible candidates may also receive healthcare benefits, housing, and meals/incidentals. Full details of our healthcare benefits plan can be found here. This posting is open for 60 days after the posting date.
