Job description

Live at the intersection of motion design and front-end engineering.

RUN Studios, and its client partner, a large online retailer headquartered in Seattle, are seeking a Technical Motion Designer (Rive / Front-End Focus) to join for an approximate 3-month project.

While this position has potential to be remote, RUN Studios can only consider candidates currently residing in the following states at this time: CA, CO, FL, ID, MI, NJ, NY, OR, TX, WA.

This isn’t a traditional motion role. It’s closer to a front-end engineer who deeply understands motion—someone who can build, structure, and ship interactive animations using Rive in real products. You’ll work on expressive, real-time motion systems—not just exporting animations, but designing how motion behaves, responds, and scales in code. The ideal candidate should have experience with state machines, advanced data binds, and React Native integration. They need to function as an independent owner who can work with engineering teams without extensive oversight.

As a Technical Motion Designer, You Will

  • Build and implement interactive animations using Rive across product surfaces.
  • Translate motion concepts into production-ready assets.
  • Own animation logic, state machines, and databinds inside Rive.
  • Optimize for performance, scalability, and reusability.
  • Help define best practices for how motion is built and implemented with Rive.
  • Build tools that can be used by designers to modify Rive files at runtime.

In This Role, You Bring

  • 7-10+ years of experience in motion/UX design with a minimum of 1+ years of experience in RIVE technology  .
  • Strong front-end engineering skills (JavaScript/TypeScript preferred).
  • Experience with Rive, including: State machines, Advanced databinds and logic, Complex, interactive animation systems.
  • Solid understanding of animation principles (timing, easing, choreography).
  • Experience integrating animation into real products—not just prototypes.
  • Comfortable working between design and engineering teams.
  • Ability to debug, iterate, and refine motion directly in code.

Bonus If You Have

  • Experience with React, React Native, or similar frameworks.
  • Familiarity with animation tools like After Effects (but not required).
  • Experience building design systems or reusable motion systems.
  • Interest in real-time, interactive, or generative animation.

Additional Position Details

  • Supervisory Responsibilities
    • None.
  • Physical Demands
    • Physical demands of the job, including bending, sitting, and lifting.
    • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Work Environment
    • 5 days onsite/week.
  • Travel
    • No travel requirements at this time, subject to change.

This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee. Duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.

Pay Range: $51.00 - $61.25 hourly

The successful candidate’s pay will be based on various factors such as individual qualifications and work location.

Benefits

Benefits and perks may vary depending on location and nature of the work, but eligible employees have access to medical, dental, vision, life, and AD&D benefits, health savings and flexible spending accounts, other telehealth and wellness benefits, a minimum of seven paid holidays per year, accrual of at least 6.5 days (Temporary Employment) to at least 15 days (Regular Employment) of paid time off per year, a 401k plan with company match, discretionary bonuses dependent on company, team or individual performance, and referral bonuses for eligible hired referrals.
