Job description

Be Part of What's Next

Help shape the social video experiences millions of people engage with every day. As a Temporary Social Video Editor, you'll bring compelling editorial stories to life through fast-paced, platform-native content that reflects the distinct voices of some of Hearst's most iconic brands, including ELLE, Esquire, and ELLE Decor.

About Hearst Magazines (Why Us?)

Hearst Magazines is home to 30 brands that inspire, inform, and entertain audiences across fashion, luxury, beauty, lifestyle, health, food, home, and more. Our iconic portfolio reaches millions of consumers through award-winning journalism, innovative storytelling, and best-in-class digital experiences. Join a collaborative team that values creativity, curiosity, and bold ideas while helping shape the future of media.

Key Responsibilities (What You Are Doing)

  • Edit approximately 20-30 short-form social videos each month for TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts.
  • Create engaging, platform-native video content across the Fashion & Luxury portfolio, with a primary focus on ELLE, Esquire, and ELLE Decor.
  • Transform provided footage, scripts, and editorial direction into polished, on-brand videos optimized for each platform.
  • Shape creative storytelling through pacing, text treatments, captions, music selection, and social-first editing techniques.
  • Produce timely, fast-turnaround edits that support breaking trends, cultural moments, events, and editorial priorities.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Director of Social and Video, editors, producers, social leads, and audience teams throughout the production process.
  • Manage review workflows and feedback using tools such as Frame.io, Airtable, and Google Drive while maintaining organized project files.
  • Stay current on evolving social video trends, platform best practices, and emerging editing styles to continuously elevate content performance.

Qualifications (What We're Looking For)

  • 2+ years of experience editing short-form social video, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong understanding of TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts, including platform best practices and audience behaviors.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe After Effects and Adobe Photoshop.
  • Ability to edit efficiently while maintaining high creative and editorial standards in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong instincts for visual storytelling, pacing, social hooks, captions, text overlays, and music selection.
  • Experience incorporating creative feedback and collaborating effectively across editorial, social, video, and audience teams.
  • Familiarity with Frame.io, Airtable, and Google Drive is preferred.
  • Interest in fashion, beauty, lifestyle, entertainment, culture, design, commerce, and media.
  • Experience in a publisher, editorial, media, or branded content environment is a plus.
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work a hybrid schedule based in New York City, with four days per week in the office.

The base pay for this role is $26.00 per hour. This position is not eligible for bonus or commission compensation. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, qualifications, and location.

Hearst Magazines is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
