Job Description
Under general supervision, plans, implements and evaluates age appropriate curriculum for preschool age children; performs a variety of care and supervision duties with children, assists in maintaining a safe and healthy environment, maintains documentation related to State requirements and perform related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications

• 24 units in ECE including the core courses and;
• 16 General Education units and;
• 175 days of 3 + hours per day within the last 4 years
• OR AA in ECE or related field with 3 units supervised field experience in an ECE setting

Desirable Qualifications

• An Associate of Arts degree in child development or early childhood education
• One year of experience as an aid or equivalent capacity working with young children
• Community college experience
• Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students

Physical Characteristics

• Speech to instruct, direct and/or communicate with children, staff and parents
• Hearing to monitor center activities and for normal communication
• Vision to read text and computer screens, and monitor and observe operations and behavior
• Walking standing, stooping, kneeling and climbing to supervise, interact with, instruct, and lead activities for children
• Lifting up to 40 pounds to comfort and control children
• Running to control and retrieve children
• Manual dexterity to demonstrate objective manipulation and lead other instruction involving hand skills
• Working in exposure to bodily fluids and bacterial contamination
• Work is performed indoors and outdoors in a child development center and on field trips.

Salary Range
$21.88 per hour
Essential Duties

• Teaches children social and language skills, problem-solving skills, emerging literacy, math and science skills through daily interaction and example using an emergent curriculum teaching philosophy
• Observes, documents and evaluates children's interests and progress to provide meaningful curriculum to extend children's development
• Observes, and keeps anecdotal records of children's progress in social-emotional, language, motor and cognitive development
• Participates in the planning of curriculum and classroom environmental changes with Director and other staff
• Conducts or participates in a variety of meetings such as staff meetings, curriculum meetings and meeting with parents to discuss assessments and evaluations of the child; updating parents regularly on child problems, progress, abilities, health and attitude
• Performs various child care needs: Assists children with personal needs (such as using toilet, changing diapers, clothes, hand washing); teaches children good hygiene habits; comforts children; resolves conflicts while teaching problem solving skills; performs minor first aid and dispenses prescription medicines when necessary
• Monitors and maintains a safe and clean environment in the classroom and outdoors at all times; monitors and ensures compliance to state and federal regulations; cleans up spills and accidents along with daily cleaning routines; sorts and stores toys and equipment
• Sets up, organizes and displays classroom to be engaging and self-sustaining for children to use; posts curriculum documentation for both children and parent viewing
• Advises, guides and corrects the work of student workers
• Maintains current first aid and CPR training
