MAIN PURPOSE

The Mechanical & Piping Coordinator reports directly to the Construction Manager for all fieldwork in his/her assigned discipline. He/she will be responsible for the mechanical & piping Contractors’ construction activities on the project. Will also become the key individual for the team’s quality assurance program in this specific area or discipline. Responsibilities include:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • HSSE Leadership: Champion Orbia and site HSSE programs; enforce permit-to-work, JSA/JHA, LOTO, confined space, hot work, and lifting/rigging controls. Support daily toolbox talks and weekly safety meetings; drive observation, near-miss reporting, and corrective action closure.

  • Construction Strategy & Readiness: Assist in establish the path of construction, site logistics (laydowns, access, haul roads, temporary facilities, power, water).

  • Maintains daily reports for mechanical & piping construction and related quality assurance.

  • Monitor Contractors work ensuring it is performed in compliance with industry standards and project specifications.

  • Participates in the resolution of inspection problems concerning vendors, engineering, and contractors’ QC representatives.

  • Provides surveillance of all mechanical & piping construction to assure high quality standards of workmanship are maintained.

  • Assures that the work conforms to approved engineering drawings and contract document in all areas and initiates action to prevent, stop or correct quality control, deficiencies, defective work, or deficient reports.

  • Coordinates the resolution of mechanical & Piping RFI’s and field changes with the Field Engineers and Contracts Administrator

  • Reviews estimates for field changes with Orbia Management.

COMPLEXITY OF THE JOB

  • Coordinate with field construction for multiple lump sum and T&M contractors. Coordinating with Contractors and Vendors to ensure safety, quality and schedule targets are met as well as all Relative Documentation is accurate.

  • Coordinate closely with Contractors and Vendors to ensure that all documentation is completed prior to system walkdown.

  • May include some travel to gulf coast module yards for mechanical/piping to provide owners oversight and support quality assurance.


EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LANGUAGE, & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 15 years of industrial project construction management in chemical, petrochemical, or other heavy industries, including at least 10 years as construction management/lead for owner’s team with construction management responsibility for mechanical & piping EPC field execution.

  • Associates, or equivalent experience in a construction discipline (Construction Management, welding, piping, millwright). Deep construction experience in one of the following construction disciplines, with general experience in the other two: mechanical/equipment installation, piping, welding, millwright. Also desired is experience managing/constructing process modules equipment and piping.

  • Demonstrated HSSE leadership implementing site programs; OSHA-30 (or equivalent) preferred.

  • Proficiency in AWP/workface planning, systemization/MC/turnover, quantity tracking and earned value, and digital field management tools.

  • Deep working knowledge of relevant codes/standards (e.g., ACI/AISC/AWS,) and owner/contractor quality systems (ITPs, NDT, NDE).

  • Demonstrated experience in constructability during design, with experience in a modular construction/setting for piping & mechanical preferred.

  • Strong leadership in multi-contractor environments, and clear communication and disciplined reporting skills.

  • Language(s) and level of proficiency: Must be fluent in English

  • Physical requirements for the position: Work primarily in the field under varied site conditions; willingness to support extended hours/weekends during critical path activities; onsite presence in St. Gabriel, LA. Must be able to spend substantial part of each day at the outdoor construction site including walking on uneven ground, climbing stairs, and ladders.

The compensation for this position is included above. The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity.
